When Honkai Star Rail first released, players had access only to one F2P healer, and one 5-star Regular Warp healer. Now with the launch of the Playstation version, the game has added a number of units to help keep your teams alive through some of its most challenging content.
After testing and theory crafting conducted by various sources, including prydwen.gg and the Chinese players’ community, these are the characters that showcase the best sustain capabilities in the game. Unless you are trying to 0-cycle the game, they are going to be necessary additions to your roster.
All calculations were done with 4-star characters at E6, and 5-stars at E0.
8 Fire Trailblazer
The Fire Trailblazer is a variant of your main character which you can unlock by playing through the story. They are a Fire Type character who follow the Path of Preservation, and their kit revolves around taunting enemies with their Skill, and building up stacks of Magma Will every time they are hit. At 4 stacks, their Basic Attack is enhanced and deals AOE damage.
Since you unlock them by playing through the story, every account will eventually have this unit, making them one of the few free-to-play options you can get without making any pulls. With the taunts and modest Shields provided to allies, they are a good unit to keep your team alive. And since they are a 5-star whose Eidolons you can get simply by playing the game, they can be a very respectable addition to your team.
7 Natasha
Natasha is a kind doctor who resides and runs an orphanage in Belobog’s Underworld. She is a Physical Type character who follows the Path of Abundance, and provides healing through her Skill and Ultimate.
Natasha is a 4-star character and the first healer you’ll get access to by playing the game. Her Ultimate heals your team by a decent amount, while her Skill heals an ally for a modest amount while also Cleansing them of any status effects. She is a good character to build if you don’t have Bailu or Gepard, especially in the early game, but has been outdone by recent sustain units.
6 March 7th
The peppy, outgoing member of the Astral Express, and the face of the game, March 7th is an Ice Type character who follows the Path of Preservation. Her Skill gives a pretty strong Shield to a single ally, and her Ultimate does an AOE Ice damage attack that can Freeze enemies.
March 7th is a 4-star character, and the first sustain unit that you’ll get in the game. Although she is an early-game character, she still has great utility, since her Shield also Cleanses allies, and makes it more likely for enemies to attack that character if their health is at 30% Max HP or higher. Additionally, when enemies hit a Shielded character, March will respond with a counterattack, which provides some offensive utility outside her turn.
5 Bailu
A member of the Vidyadhara race, and an expert with medicine, Bailu is a Lightning Type character who follows the Path of Abundance. Her kit revolves around applying the Invigorated status to her teammates through her Ultimate, which provides them with healing when they take damage. This can occur twice.
Bailu is a 5-star healer available on the Regular Warp banner. At launch, she was the only healer other than Natasha, who provided significantly more healing utility thanks to her Invigorated mechanics. Her Skill also provides a target ally with modest healing, and can bounce an additional 2 times randomly, healing the characters it falls on. Bailu can also revive a downed teammate once ber pattle, but is missing a Cleanse ability which becomes crucial in the late game.
4 Lynx
The youngest of the Landau siblings and a survival expert, Lynx is a Quantum-type character who follows the Path of Abundance. She provides healing through her Skill and Ultimate, along with a bunch of effects beneficial for the team.
Lynx is a 4-star character that a lot of players have been waiting for since the game began. Her Skill not only heals a target ally, it increases their Max HP for its duration. Additionally, if the healed character is from the Path of Destruction or Preservation, it increases their aggro, making enemies more likely to target them, which characters like Blade, Clara and Gepard want. Her AOE Cleanse from her Ultimate is also super helpful in late-game content.
3 Gepard
The middle child in the Landau family, and the dependable Captain of the Silvermane Guards, Gepard is an Ice Type character on the Path of Preservation. He provides all his teammates with an extremely strong Shield through his Ultimate, making him one of the best sustain units in the game.
Gepard is a 5-star character available on the Regular Warp banner. He is an incredible solo sustain unit that can carry your team even through late game content. With his Shield that scales off his Defense, he is also an easy character to build since he doesn’t need a variety of offensive stats. His Skill also allows him to do modest damage and Freeze a single enemy, but you won’t want to use it often, and use his Basic Attacks instead to save Skill Points for your DPS character. Gepard also invites more aggro from enemies through his ascension ability, and can revive himself if downed once per battle.
2 Luocha
A strange merchant who carries a coffin with him, Luocha is an Imaginary Type character who follows the Path of Abundance. His Skill and Ultimate are used to accumulate Abyss Flower stacks, and at 2 stacks, he deploys a field for 2 turns that heal any allies that launch an attack against an enemy.
Luocha is a limited 5-star character, and currently the best healer in the game. Since his field is able to heal characters passively, it allows everyone, including Luocha, to go on the offensive. His Skill heals a single target for an amount that scales with his Attack, but will also heal them out of turn at no Skill Point cost if their health drops below 50%. Additionally, his Ultimate does AOE damage and can dispel 1 buff from all enemies, which is super useful.
1 Fu Xuan
The head of the Luofu’s Divination Commission, Fu Xuan is a Quantum Type character who follows the Path of Preservation. She provides incredible sustainability by absorbing 65% of the damage inflicted on teammates, whilst also reducing the amount of damage they take, increasing their Max HP and Crit Rate, and providing a little healing as well!
Fu Xuan is a limited 5-star character that can turn your team into the ultimate tank. Her Skill activates the Matrix of Prescience, which reduces incoming damage, and transfers some of it to Fu Xuan herself. Her Talent also activates a self-heal when her health falls below 50%, and can recover up to 90% of her missing HP. Add to this her Ultimate, which does AOE Quantum damage, refreshes her self-heal count, and recovers a small amount of HP for everyone. If Luocha’s only weakness is being unable to deal with instant kill attacks, Fu Xuan can likely tank even those, making her the best sustain unit in the game.
