The Spurned Progeny is one of the main bosses in Lords of the Fallen, and players will need to defeat him to progress the story of the game further and access more beacons.
A behemoth of gigantic proportions, the Spurned Progeny looks scarier than he really is. Once players understand his attack patterns, the fight is a cakewalk, especially with a radiance build.
Phase 1: Spurned Progeny
Phase 1 begins as soon as you enter the arena after a short cutscene. Press and hold E to skip it. Here is how it plays out.
Side Smash
The Spurned Progeny will lift one of his legs up and slam it down on the ground with the full weight of its body behind it. This typically only happens when you’re sticking like glue to its hind legs to deal damage.
Inferno Slam
The boss will lift up one of his fists and slam it down on the ground. A wave of inferno will emanate from the point of impact and spread across the arena like a pulse. Dodge through it to i-frame the damage.
Magma Surge
The Spurned Progeny casts the inferno spell, Magma Surge, which creates a red glow beneath the player and erupts after half a second. Multiple eruptions follow the player for a few turns until they fizzle out. Keep rolling out of the way to avoid damage.
Combat Strategy
For Phase 1, all you want to do is stick to the hind legs of the Spurned Progeny and get in as many shots as you can with your melee weapons. The only answer the boss has to this strategy is to use one of the attacks mentioned above, which are all easy to dodge. The Spurned Progeny is weak to radiance damage, so use Smite Salts and Radiance spells as much as possible throughout the fight.
Phase 2: Three Armed Progeny
The second phase begins with the Spurned Progeny spewing a river of magma from his mouth that immediately starts spreading across the arena. As soon as you start seeing magma spread, start running toward one of the staircases in the arena and climb up. It doesn’t matter which staircase you use; they’re all the same.
Hand Slam
The boss slams one of his hands on the ground. Dodge towards the slam to i-frame it and deal as much damage as you can in the brief window when he pauses.
Claw Attack
The boss will pull back one of his arms and sweep across the ground in a clawing motion to deal damage. Dodge into the attack to i-frame it. There is no opportunity to strike back as the boss draws his hand back immediately after the attack.
Third Arm Reach
The boss will create a third arm that emerges from his mouth and bend down towards the second-floor balcony until his mouth is level with the surface. The third arm will shoot out of his face towards the player after a second. This attack is very hard to dodge as there is little to no indication of when the arm is coming. Dodge if you’re confident about getting the timing right, block if you’re not.
Inferno Slam (Third Arm)
The boss will use its third arm to perform the same attack it did in the first phase. The fist slams down, and a wave of magma spreads out. Dodge out of the attack to avoid it. The boss will leave his arm stationary on the ground, so be sure to roll back towards it to get a few swings in before he recovers.
Fire Orb
The boss will clutch its neck and use its third arm to form a glowing ball of fire. The ball of fire will explode after 2-3 seconds, dealing damage to everything in sight. Hide behind one of the broken walls near the back of the balcony so the boss doesn’t have a line of sight.
Combat Strategy
For the second phase, the only way to deal damage to the Spurned Progeny is either through ranged attacks or by attacking the arm of the boss when it performs a slam attack. Radiance spells are great for ranged attacks, but standard ammo attacks do the job just as well.
For melee attacks, players will have to wait for the Progeny to do a slam attack and then run in to deal some damage. At some point in the second phase, the magma on the floor dries up and vanishes. Players can choose to head back down the arena to deal damage or stay on the second floor.

There is no phase after the second one, and once players defeat the Spurned Progeny, they will be rewarded with Vestige Seed x1, Umbral Scouring x8, Spurned Progeny Flesh x1, and Giant Eyeball x1. Don’t forget to interact with the Umbral Stigma in the middle of the arena to get some additional Umbral Scouring and Spurned Progeny Remembrance.
