Although building your team around a single type of Pokémon is generally ineffective, having the best of the best can sometimes be beneficial. One of the more underappreciated types is Poison which is unfortunate since its effectiveness really shone through once Fairy-types were introduced.
The Poison-type Pokémon possesses a unique allure compared with other types since it seems to be the one that stands out from the rest. For example, with Roserade we see the beauty as well as the toxicity that it represents along with many other unique Pokémon that we have yet to explore, offering a spellbinding collection of Pokémon that leave a lasting impression.
10 Clodsire
Clodsire, introduced in Scarlet and Violet, is one of the best Poison-type Pokémon in recent years even though it might not look it. In battle, Clodsire possesses almost no speed at all and has several weaknesses but because it’s Dual type with Ground, Ground moves are no longer super effective on it.
Its Water-type weakness can also be negated with its Water Absorb ability which makes Clodsire survivability shoot up during a fight. Its defense leaves much to be desired though but with skilled users, Clodsire will shine through regardless.
9 Tentacruel
Known for its menacing appearance and for being one of the more iconic Generation One Pokémon, Tentacruel is a Poison and Water-type Pokémon that excels in both offense and defense. Its ability, Liquid Ooze, punishes Pokémon who attempt to drain its health with moves like Giga Drain, turning their tactics against them.
With its high Special Defense stat, it can endure hits and set up toxic spikes to gradually wear down its opponent. Tentacruel has solid stats and is a good overall Pokemon that somehow made its way onto one of the best with how versatile it can be.
8 Roserade
One of the better Grass and Poison-type Pokémon, Roserade is a great Pokémon to use to set up hazards throughout the fight. Its typing is also quite solid defensively, allowing it to have minimum weaknesses and multiple resistances.
Roserade’s strength lies in its exceptional Special Attack stat, which allows it to unleash devastating special attacks on an opponent. Potent moves such as Sludge Bomb, and Giga Drain allow Roserade to hold its own in battle. Additionally, Roserade has the ability Natural Cure, which enables it to shake off moves like sleep, paralysis, or poison simply by switching out making it highly efficient in battle.
7 Dragalge
Dragalge’s rare and prized dragon typing distinguishes it from other Poison-type Pokémon introduced so far. It benefits from this dual typing by gaining resistances to common dragon-type techniques while preserving its lethal poison-based arsenal making it one of the better Dual-type Pokémon to exist
While Dragalge isn’t the fastest Pokémon, its superior defensive abilities and ability to unleash powerful poison and dragon-type attacks make it a force to be reckoned with. Its distinct design also makes it popular among the fanbase, resembling a shrouded seahorse dragon of sorts.
6 Alolan Muk
Alolan Muk is a fascinating regional variant of the original Muk, with a distinct Poison and Dark-type that distinguishes it from its contemporaries. Its typing makes it incredible with how few weaknesses it has left while packing numerous resistances. Alolan Muk demonstrates its prowess in battle through a variety of special attacks.
Its ability, Poison Touch, allows it to poison opponents upon physical contact, increasing the amount of damage it can inflict. This trait, coupled with its high Attack stat, allows Alolan Muk to deliver punishing blows while simultaneously wearing down adversaries with residual poison damage making it one of the best Poison-type Pokémon out there.
5 Galarian Slowking
Galarian Slowking not only holds one of the best Poison-type Pokémon but also one of the greatest Psychic-types that you can get. Its stats are solid, with high HP and defense effectively making it a tank in most regards.
Its Regenerator ability allows it to heal when switched out making this ability top-tier in battle and combining it with its high special attack and special defense allows a lot of coverage. Though its speed leaves a lot to be desired, Galarian Sloking is an amazing regional variant of an already great Pokémon.
4 Amoonguss
Amoonguss is a potent and disruptive force in battle, thanks to its unusual mushroom-like appearance and a number of strategic options at its disposal. With access to moves like Spore, which is still one of the best moves in the series, and Clear Smog, which eliminates any stat changes of the opponent, Amoonguss excels in disrupting your opponent’s strategies.
Its wide move set also includes powerful Grass-type attacks like Giga Drain and Energy Ball, letting it deal significant damage while regenerating health making it one of the best support Pokémon Grass as well as Poison types.
3 Venusaur
Venusaur is another Generation One Pokémon that’s considered to be one of the best Poison types. Venusaur is the final evolution of Bulbasaur which is probably the best Generation One starter and boasts a well-rounded stat distribution, with solid defensive stats and a respectable Special Attack stat.
This makes it a reliable tank on the battlefield, capable of withstanding hits while dishing out powerful Grass and Poison-type attacks. What makes Venusaur stand out though is its Chlorophyll ability, allowing it to perform much better in the sun leaving you with one of the best Pokémon ever, but when out of the sun it falls short of that title.
2 Gengar
One of the most popular and iconic Pokémon is the dual Ghost and Poison-type Gengar which has held its own despite the power creep introduced following the first generation. Its stats are all about special attacks and speed with high points in both, making it one of the fastest Pokémon to come out of Generation One.
Gengar’s Ghost typing grants it immunity to Normal and Fighting-type moves, rendering it impervious to many common attack strategies. Its Poison typing, on the other hand, makes it resistant to several types and allows Gengar to use poison-based attacks to wear down its opponents. All these factors and its popularity make Gengar one of the more iconic Poison-type Pokémon to have ever come out of the franchise.
1 Toxapex
One of the greatest walls in the Pokémon franchise is none other than Toxapex, offering everything you will ever need in a Pokémon. Toxapex is an exceptional Water and Poison-type Pokémon that debuted in the Alola area.
It is recognized for its great defensive powers as well as its ability to stall opponents with its toxic tactics. Toxapex has established a reputation as a tank and a master of poison-based techniques and moves like Recover and its Regenerator ability make Toxapex the best Poison-type Pokémon in the series that can be a real pain to take down.
