Spider-Man 2 has three different skill trees for players to invest their skill points into. One of those skill trees applies to both Spider-Men, while the other two apply to only one Spider-Man each.
Throughout the game, players will need to choose how to invest their skill points, making sure to keep both Spider-Men equal in terms of strength. With Peter having multiple skills to choose from, here are the best ones from his skill tree.
10 Symbiote Strike: Extended
The Symbiote Strike ability is useful in that it knocks up multiple enemies into the air. Without any upgrades, this ability is useful, but other gadgets and other Spider-Man skills can accomplish the same task better.
With this upgrade, the ability now affects more enemies, which is incredibly worthwhile considering how many enemies Spider-Man will usually be facing. With this upgrade, the distance traveled is also increased, catching more enemies on the way.
9 Spider Barrage: Brute Force
Of the non-symbiote abilities, Spider Barrage is one of the best options players can use. For those rushing useful skills in Peter’s skill tree, this is very useful against some of the earlier bosses in the game.
While this ability’s base power doesn’t compare to many of Peter’s Symbiote abilities, recharging it faster will help it still be a viable option. This ability also has the benefit of hitting multiple enemies, something the other symbiote ability for this button cannot do.
8 Spider Shock: Overload
The Spider Shock ability is a great ranged option that also works as a crowd control. While Miles is usually the one known for electrifying his enemies in combat, this ability lets Peter do the same to multiple enemies at once.
Through this upgrade, additional nearby enemies can be chained into being affected, making this ability even more useful. Early into the game, Peter doesn’t have as many crowd-control abilities, and this upgrade greatly helps with that.
7 Surge: Ready To Glow
Using a Surge will give Spider-Man an incredible boost in damage for a short time, also affecting the overall damage of his abilities. Even with other skills and upgrades that restore abilities faster, they can still take a while and not always be ready when needed in combat.
With this skill, at the end of a Surge, all abilities are automatically refilled, letting players freely use all abilities currently available during Surge to get the full effect while also not leaving Peter without options once the Surge ends. This upgrade can also continue long combos using a Surge that is then followed up by multiple other abilities for huge amounts of damage.
6 Symbiote Punch: Symbiote Slam
The Symbiote Punch is a very powerful ability that deals huge damage to only one enemy and will web them up to a wall if they are small enough. This ability also has the ability to destroy Hunter vehicles, and with this upgrade, it becomes able to handle any enemy.
With this upgrade, the Symbiote Punch ability will now have the same effect on Brutes as it does on normal enemies. As long as a Brute enemy is lined up correctly, they can be taken out with only a single ability and left webbed on a wall in seconds.
5 Surge: Don’t Resist
Peter’s Surge ability is incredibly powerful, letting him deal incredible amounts of damage to enemies through just his basic attack. While Surging, his abilities are also boosted, dealing even more damage than usual.
With how useful Surge is, it’s important to get it back as often as possible, and this skill makes that much more doable. Surge is earned by attacking enemies, specifically with Symbiote abilities, and this skill earns players more Surge with each hit, making it a very worthwhile ability that lets players Surge more often.
4 Symbiote Yank: Empowered
The Symbiote Yank ability will reach forward, grab any nearby enemies, and lift them in the air before slamming them into the ground. This is an excellent crowd control option that also deals a significant amount of damage to any enemy grabbed.
Normally, only a few enemies can be grabbed and yanked, but this ability takes away that limit. Now, any enemy in front of Peter and not too far away is lifted and slammed. Without a limiter, this ability is excellent when used with a web grabber to bring multiple enemies front and center to this attack.
3 Symbiote Blast: Might
Area of effect attacks in Spider-Man 2 are already some of the top-list abilities to use. As Spider-Man is just about always outnumbered, it’s important to have abilities that can take care of large groups of weaker enemies, and the Symbiote Blast ability does just that.
Its only downside is that its range isn’t great, and it won’t always take out weaker enemies, and that’s where this skill comes in. This skill upgrades both the distance and damage, making this ability incredibly useful at any stage in the game.
2 Surge: Power Spike
Surgeing is purely offensive, giving Peter a massive boost in damage with both his basic attacks and abilities. While his abilities do an incredible amount of damage, they will need to still be charged up to be used.
With this skill, abilities will charge 50% faster while surging, making it possible to use a skill more than once during a Surge and even a third time after the Surge ends with the skill Surge: Ready To Glow.
1 Surge: Alien Harmony
Surge Mode is the highlight of Peter’s Symbiote abilities, and while Surging, he will dominate any fight, even against some of the stronger bosses in the game. While there are many skills on this list that further the effectiveness of Surge, Alien Harmony is by far the best.
This skill greatly increases how long Surge is in effect, taking previously mentioned skills and only making them stronger. With a longer Surge, players will be able to deal incredible amounts of damage on bosses and even trivialize some boss fights when using Surge at the right time.
