A few story missions into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter will be welcomed into the Emily-May Foundation. Once Peter accepts the job offer, you’ll be able to find 8 EMF Experiments scattered throughout New York.
However, not only are these missions varied in what they ask of you, but the total number of Experiments is actually 9 instead of 8. The final Experiment will be locked behind a specific event, so your quest to finish them all will be halted if you were planning to rush through them.
How To Start An EMF Experiment
Once the Experiments have been unlocked, you will find all of them on your map. If you want to know which one is currently the closest to you, open the FNSM App and look for the closest EMF Experiment to your current location.
Remember, only Peter can do these Experiments. You will have to switch from Miles if you were playing as him and want to start an EMF Experiment.
As an extra heads-up, here’s the full list of locations for EMF Experiments:
- Chinatown
- Hell’s Kitchen
- Financial District
- Upper West Side
- Little Odessa
- Downtown Brooklyn (there are 2 of them)
- Harlem
- Astoria (will be unlocked much later)
Not only will the one in Astoria be locked until later, but there are a few Experiments that can only be done after you’ve finished a previous Experiment.
Completing Energy Experiments
There are 4 different types of Experiments across the 9 different missions. Each type of Experiment will be explained for their separate rules.
Energy EMF Experiments are the least uniform in terms of sharing rules. Peter will have to bike through a track, while in the other Experiment, you will have to Web Wing to the correct altitude and release floating turbines. For the bike race, the bike will eventually start to break down, meaning you’ll have to reach the end on a timer. For the turbine mission, Kraven’s Hunters will come across and try to steal the turbine due to it being in their way. Simply defeat them and then the turbine back into the air.
These may feel separate from each other, but they are the most like the rules of the basic game out of all the EMF Experiments. You should have no problem finishing the path of getting to the right altitude.
Completing Bee Drone Experiments
During the story mission that unlocks EMF Experiments, you can encounter the scientist behind the Bee Drones and test one out for yourself. If you did that, then you’ll already have a grasp on how the Bee Drone Experiments will handle.
You’ll have to pilot around a Bee Drone and fire lasers at the needed targets. The mission given in Upper West Side will be the simplest, where you just have to attack the hologram rats and wasps, followed by flying the Bee Drone to possible nesting grounds. In Little Odessa, you’ll start redoing this process until a bee-eating bird flies over, and you’ll have to shoo it away and then follow it to see where it came from.
The hardest will be in Downtown Brooklyn, where you’ll discover random criminals have started stealing bees for the black market. Your Drone will end up captured, then woken back up in the base. With your laser you’ll just have to open the bee cages which will make the criminals open the doors and allow Spider-Man to defeat them.
The controls for the Bee Drone are easy to understand and will be on-screen in case you forget anything.
Completing Plant Science Experiments
There are 3 instances of Plant Science. Over in Little Tokyo, you’ll be heading to a F.E.A.S.T. Shelter to access their rooftop garden to create a cross-breed. You’ll just have to find 3 flowers which will be easy to do with your Spider-sense. Bring the flowers to the table and create the Hybrid using the calibration.
The EMF Plant Science Experiment will be a bit stranger over in Hell’s Kitchen. All the plants are starting to wither and die, so you’ll have to scan the area to discover there’s a chemical leak from the harbor. Peter’s solution will be to cross-breed the flowers with fish from the harbor, as the fish are immune to the compound. Go fishing real quick, then bring the fish over to the Hybrid Calibration machine.
Completing The Final EMF Experiment
This EMP Experiment only unlocks when you have beaten the main story. Because of this, the explanation behind it will be marked as spoiler content.
MJ will call you the next time you play as Peter, telling you Norman Osborn has mailed a package to you. The package will be found in Aunt May’s garage, with a note stating Harry wanted you to have it; a flower and a USB drive. The USB is a recording of Harry and an unfinished compound to make a flower.
