Activision quietly canceled Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4

It’s common to treat remakes of classics with caution: even the most talented teams are capable of ruining masterpieces of antiquity. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was a happy exception to the rule-the updated version of the main skater games of the 90’s managed to satisfy both old fans and neophytes. It would seem that we should strike while the iron is hot. But it was not there.

Tony Hawk confirmedthat Activision has canceled the development of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. The reason is quite prosaic: after the publisher made the Vicarious Visions team part of Blizzard Entertainment, there were no other worthy candidates to create 3 + 4. The company rejected the pitches of other studios and eventually decided to quietly forget about the project. Hawk himself hopes that this situation can still be resolved.

Recall that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was released in September 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch came out in 2021. The remake became the fastest-selling installment in the series, selling a million copies in two weeks.
