Cloud gaming is becoming an increasingly popular method in the gaming industry, and all three major console manufacturers are using it to some degree. Publisher Square Enix is exploring this technology by announcing an investment in “Blacknut’s B2B2C cloud gaming platform.”
In a press release, the cloud technology company said, “Blacknut, a leading independent cloud gaming provider, today announced a strategic investment from gaming giant SQUARE ENIX in an effort to meet the growing global demand for cloud-based gaming services.”
The investment will be used to “support ongoing research and development to solidify Blacknut’s technology leadership, accelerate the market penetration of its B2B solution and further expand Blacknut’s game portfolio.”
Square Enix’s recent business decisions have been criticized by some fans, and their previous interest in NFT has caused considerable backlash. While cloud games are certainly not as controversial as NFT, they are still in their infancy, so we will have to wait and see if this investment pays off in the long run.
What do you think about cloud gaming? Have you tried them? What are your impressions?
