Steam has experienced the largest inventory theft in the history of the service. According to PCGamesN journalists, one of the richest collectors of skins in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was robbed.
The victim’s inventory was worth about $2 million. For instance, there were seven rare AWP Dragon Lore skins with stickers alone, which is probably the most rare and expensive skin in the whole game. Also, according to journalists, an unknown attacker has already managed to sell about half of the stolen items on the trading floor. The remaining half was distributed in small batches to numerous Steam accounts of the thief.
It’s unclear whether Valve will intervene in the situation – in theory, the company has the resources to track and reverse all transactions on its site. Considering that we are talking about the biggest scam in Steam’s history, it makes sense to prevent the image damage and demonstrate the reliability of the site. It should be noted that in the past tech support willingly returned stolen inventories even to the most ordinary users.
