Preparing for an incomplete release (no PvE content yet) in early October, Overwatch 2 will be distributed on a notional free-to-play model. This is not a secret, and we in the editorial office have written about it more than once. And as all the shareware projects are monetized through the sale of various optional content like character skins, various effects, and in particularly severe cases – more powerful weapons and features, then the fate of Overwatch 2 in terms of making money in general becomes clear.
And so, today users began to report that Blizzard has begun sending out questionnaires asking gamers for their opinions on possible prices for optional content of certain levels. Thus, gamers paid special attention to the paragraph in which Blizzard mentions the so-called mythical (rare and expensive) guises for Overwatch 2 characters, and the response options showing the likelihood that players are willing to buy them at a price – take Corvalol – of $44.99.
Legendary (lower level) looks Blizzard is going to sell for $25, graffiti kits for $5, and so on. Players are expected to be left in unpleasant shock at Blizzard’s insolence and greed, so surely the results of the surveys will be revealing and sobering for the company. If not, there’s a good chance that Overwatch 2 will slide into a “Shapkowatch” similar to what happened with Team Fortress 2 in its time.
Overwatch 2 is set for an early release on Oct. 4. Players can expect new maps, heroes and game modes.
