The world of Red Dead Online on PC depopulated as a result of a bug

With Red Dead Online lately happens one unpleasantness after another. Then gamers, frustrated with the lack of content support for their favorite game, will give it a virtual “funeral”, then Rockstar will announce a reduction of new content release for RDO to almost zero, then some funny bug will pop up. In just a month Red Dead Online experienced all three of these sad events, and the third of them happened today.

As players report, a major bug has occurred in Red Dead Online on PC, causing the local NPC “population” to disappear, leaving only their dwellings, workshops and other elements of Wild West-era civilization. At the same time, wagons continue to move – by themselves, without coachmen or passengers.

What caused the bug, and why it was so selective, affecting only the PC version of the game, is unclear. It’s also unclear whether Rockstar is working on a fix. At the moment this bug is a source of scintillating jokes like “Even NPCs realized the meaninglessness of existence in Red Dead Online”.
