While the throwing knives are one of the first tools Basim gets after becoming an assassin, they are arguably the best tool players can use in Assassin’s Creed Miage. After unlocking the Bureau in Baghdad, players can use various crafting materials to upgrade the tier level on their tools.
After unlocking a tier of upgrades, players can then choose which upgrade from that tier they want active. This can be done as often as players would like, letting them mix and match the different upgrades to find the best combination.
While the Extra Capacity upgrade may seem like a strong tier 1 option, this upgrade is made almost useless with the Knife Recovery skill. This upgrade increases your throwing knife capacity from 4 to 6, but better tier 1 upgrades should be chosen.
While the additional throwing knives seem like a good option, the Knife Recovery skill allows you to pick up knives that hit enemies. For those who don’t miss their throws often, it’ll be rare to use all four available knives as is. With the right skill and accuracy, entire camps can be cleared out with only a single knife.
7 Poison Tip
The added poison effect can be useful, further harming and distracting a guard, but the main goal of this tool should be to finish off your enemy. Aiming for mostly headshots, it won’t be often the enemy even survives the knife and experiences the poison. A poisoned guard may act as a distraction for others but will also raise their alert.
With other upgrades, your throwing knives can become incredibly deadly, and after-effects from getting hit will rarely be used. While this can be a useful perk for dealing with tougher enemies, other upgrades on this list and in this tier are more effective and a better option.
6 Corrode Body
Leaving a body behind can make stealth very difficult, as other patrolling guards will discover their comrades and be altered to your presence. With the Corrode Body skill, enemies killed with throwing knives will disintegrate and leave no trace behind, helping players dispose of the body without needing to reveal themselves.
This upgrade can be very useful but will require very specific situations to work properly. Bodies won’t decay immediately, meaning close-by guards will notice the body before it disappears. Should the body have more than enough time to corrode away, it may just be easier to throw another knife and kill the other approaching guard and eliminate them also.
5 Heavy Blade
The Heavy Blade skill gives throwing knives the ability to stagger enemies that are hit. This can be a useful option in combat for those who can throw quickly to delay another attack from a strong enemy. These throws will require the player to be quick but can give the upper hand if done correctly.
While this is a great option in combat, its uses in stealth are more limited. While the stagger can make sure guards don’t walk away or move after being altered by getting hit with a dagger, their stagger reaction can make landing the second dagger to finish them off a bit more tricky.
4 Light Blade
The Light Blade upgrade gives your throwing knives much more versatility in stealth situations where you can charge up the throw. Other upgrades increase either damage or range, while this upgrade gives both. While the additional wind-up can leave you susceptible to being spotted, the following throw will be able to take out most enemies.
This upgrade is great for anyone who clears out camps of enemies with their throwing knives. As long as you stay behind your target to not get seen, this upgrade will be very beneficial and make even a body shot kill off an enemy.
3 Armor Piercing
Armored enemies can be very difficult to deal with in a head-on fight. While stealth killing them is just as easy as any other kill, players will need to rely on tools to get the edge over these tankier enemies in hand-to-hand combat. Dodging and hitting their back can be effective, but a powerful throwing knife is much more effective.
The Armor Piercing upgrade for this weapon makes it incredibly effective against armored enemies. By quickly throwing knives and hitting armored enemies, players can greatly damage them without nearly as much work as wearing them down with their sword and dagger.
2 Extended Range
The Extended Range upgrade allows players to target enemies with their throwing knives from a greater distance. Throwing knives are excellent stealth tools that can clear out entire camps without Basim getting noticed, and this upgrade only makes the process easier.
While sneaking around and not getting caught is possible, the extended range will allow you to take out further enemies without putting yourself at risk of getting detected. Unlike the Light Knife upgrade, this doesn’t require a wind-up, making it easier to quickly and quietly take out enemies from a distance.
1 Sharp Blade
All of the other upgrades on this list are not useful if they aren’t killing the enemies you’re hitting. No matter what you’re using these knives for, the ultimate goal is to take out the enemy you’re throwing at, and this upgrade will make sure that always happens.
This upgrade is a straightforward damage boost and should be utilized all the time as soon as you can upgrade your tools. With the ability to immediately take out enemies, a lot of the other upgrades are virtually useless, making this one the best.
