After completing the ‘Keeping the Peace’ quest in Starfield, you will receive more work from Sergeant Yumi of UC Security. While these activities don’t play a vital role in the game’s story, you can complete them to help Sergeant Yumi solve a few cases and earn some credits as a reward.
A Break at Dawn is one such side quest that Sergeant Yumi will give to you. You must catch a thief and retrieve a stolen ring from him. However, this side quest has different outcomes, ultimately depending on your choices.
How To Find Sergeant Yumi
You can start the quest sometime after you have finished Keeping the Peace. You will receive the job from Sergeant Yumi, updated in your ‘Activities’ section.
To start the quest, you will first have to meet Sergeant Yumi. You can find him at the UC Security HQ. The HQ is in New Atlantis, on plane Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system. However, you must complete the ‘Keeping the Peace’ quest as a pre-requisite to Break at Dawn.
Sergeant Yumi will brief you about an incident at the Dawn’s Roost and a stolen ring. To kick things off, you will first have to visit Royce Elgin at the Dawn’s Roost.
Where Is Dawn’s Roost
The Dawn’s Roost is a restaurant in the Residential Area. Get on the train from the New Atlantis location and travel to the Residential District. Once you have reached the location, follow the marker, and you will eventually make your way to Royce Elgin in the Pioneer Tower (Dawn’s Roost).
Choose the “I’m here about a fight that happened at your restaurant.” to inquire about the incident. Royce will reveal that Hugo and Octavio are blaming each other for the incident (stealing the ring).
Choose “I need to find one of the patrons involved. Apparently, he stole something.” Royce will tell you about Hugo, who lives in the Athena Tower. Head to the Athena Tower to find Hugo Fournier following the marker.
Should You Give The Ring To Hugo
Once you reach Athena Tower, you will find Hugo Fournier fuming about Octavio. Ask him about what happens in Dawn’s Roost as your conversation progresses. At one point in the conversation, you will be given the choice to persuade Hugo to hand over the ring to you or let him keep the ring for himself.
Whether you hand over the ring to Hugo or keep it for yourself is entirely up to you since there’s no difference in outcome. If you decide to let Hugo keep the ring, you can return to Sergeant Yumi, tell him it was an engagement ring, and explain the situation to him.
How To Persuade Hugo
However, you can also persuade Hugo to hand over the ring to you. Doing so will let Hugo believe it was a gift, and thus, Octavio is the owner. Once you have taken the ring from Hugo, return it to Sergeant Yumi and give it back to him. You can also decide to keep the ring by lying to Sergeant Yumi by choosing “The ring wasn’t stolen. It was gifted”. You can later sell the ring for 655 credits.
Here’s how to persuade Hugo Fournier to hand over the ring to you:
- [Persuade] It’s still his property.
- [+3] Your gift is conditional. It’s only yours if you actually got married. (Failed)
- [+4] Why would you want to keep something that reminds you of him?
No matter what you do, just reporting back to Sergeant Yumi after dealing with Hugo will reward you with 100 EXP and 2000 Credits.
