Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game with tons and tons of small, seemingly insignificant items that have a surprising use that’s not immediately obvious at first glance. These miscellaneous items are littered around the world of Faerun for the intrepid adventurer to find them.
Players often overlook these items and continue on their journey. But, stop and study them, and you’ll find these items can help you out from a tight spot in ways you never thought possible. The Spider Egg Sac is one such item.

Where To Find The Spider Egg Sac
The Spider Egg Sac is a Miscellaneous Item obtainable from the Forest Area during Act 1. Head over to the following coordinates on the map: X: 138, Y: 365. Here, you’ll find a climbable rocky wall. Interact with the wall and reach higher ground to find a ladder just ahead. Climb the ladder, and you’ll see a small clearing with a roaring fire. To the right of the clearing, you’ll need to pass a perception check to find an interactable rocky mound.
Interact with the highlighted rock, and you’ll enter a cutscene with multiple Investigation and Nature checks. If you’re successful with all the dice rolls, you’ll be able to loot the rocky mound to find a Spider Egg Sac inside.
Best Way To Use The Spider Egg Sac
The Spider Egg Sac can be used to summon a group of Crab Spiders who will fight for you and travel with your party until the next long rest.
To use the Spider Egg Sac:
- Place it on the ground or throw it from your inventory.
- Hit it with an attack, preferably ranged
- 5 Crab Spiders will spawn that will fight at your command.
Keep in mind that the Spider Egg Sac, like potions, is a single-use item that will expire once you use it, so use it wisely. The Crab Spiders spawned from the egg sac are not permanent companions and will leave you once you go back to your camp for a long rest.
Each Crab Spider only has 4 HP to its name, and any area of effect spell will almost always take all of them out. The best way to use the Spider Egg Sac is to get through particularly hard fights where the enemy has a lot of single-target burst damage on their side, like a Rogue, Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, or a Wild Shaped Druid.
Throw the Spider Egg Sac in the middle of the fight and destroy it using a ranged attack. This will spawn 5 Crab Spiders, who will serve as expendable bodies to soak up the damage. Unless the enemy can deal AoE damage, they will need to spend at least 5 Actions on taking out the Crab Spiders, giving you more than enough time to mount a comeback or get your party back into shape with some heals/buffs.
Players have two options to use the Spider Egg Sac: Place it on the ground and destroy it or throw it farther away. Placing it on the ground will allow you to create a buffer between you and whoever is attacking you in melee range. If you’re in combat and there are enemies surrounding you, this is the way to go.
Throwing the Spider Egg Sac using the throw action will allow you to go on the offensive and target enemies who are farther away. This can come in handy against archers or wizards on higher ground.
