Lies Of P is a long and grueling journey, featuring a plethora of challenging boss fights that even Soulslike veterans might find difficult. Now that you have defeated Simon Manus, Awakened God, it’s time to head down Under The Abyss where Geppetto is waiting for you. Geppetto will request that you give over your heart to revive Carlo, and should you refuse to do so, he will release the Nameless Puppet to take it by force.
The Nameless Puppet is the final boss you will have to fight, if you decide to refuse Geppetto’s request to hand over your heart, Under The Abyss in Chapter 11. The Nameless Puppet has two distinct phases, the first consisting of slow and heavy attacks, while the second features a series of fast combo attacks. Though the Nameless Puppet is undoubtedly the hardest boss fight in the game, a little perseverance will help you defeat him.
Defeating The Nameless Puppet Phase 1
Weapons & Items Of Choice
While your choice of weapon will largely depend on what kind of build you are using, we decided to go with the Two Dragon’s Sword. The Two Dragon’s Sword allows players to parry incoming attacks through its Heavy Attack, which is a definite must for the very first phase. Other weapons also have a parry mechanic, but they are often performed through the handle’s Fable Art. The Two Dragon’s Sword also features fast, slashing attacks, allowing you to deliver more attacks without having to worry about a slow wind-up time.
The Nameless Puppet is also quite weak to Acid damage, despite being a Puppet enemy. Therefore, consider bringing Acid Abrasives and the Acid Grinder – if you decide not to bring an Advance scaling weapon that dishes Acid damage already. Another vital addition to adding to your build is the Aegis Legion Arm, which you should absolutely utilize to negate damage during the second phase. Lastly, bring a few Throwables that build up status effects, but again save them for the second phase.
Attacks To Guard & Parry
The opening attack at the very start of the Nameless Puppet boss fight is pretty easy to predict if you remain towards the entrance. Make sure to take this time to apply your Acid Grindstone to get through the very first stage quickly. If you remain towards the entrance of the arena, the Nameless Puppet will charge towards you, and lunge forward with a shoulder barge, before swinging his sword around for a Heavy Attack.
Make sure to Guard or dodge the initial shoulder barge, and then anticipate the swing of the boss sword, holding the Guard button just as the swing is performed to Perfect Guard it. This attack can also be Parried if you can get the timing right.
Another attack that can be easily predicted comes in the form of two slow swings, a shoulder barge (or straight into two additional swings), followed by a heavier swing – each of which can be Perfect Guarded by performing a Guard just as the swing is performed. However, this attack can be interrupted entirely by Parrying the initial swing.
Parrying any of the Nameless Puppet’s attacks will cause your enemy to stumble back, thus providing an opening for a series of Light Attacks, a single Heavy Attack, or a Fable Attack. The Nameless Puppet can also stumble backwards after dishing out consecutive Heavy Attacks, or consecutive Perfect Guards.
Once the Nameless Puppet’s health is low enough, he will begin to switch up his attack routine. These attacks change considerably in speed, each of which can be countered in a multitude of different ways. The first attack often comes with two swift overhead swings. Guarding these attacks is often recommended.
Another attack that you should also either Guard through or attempt to Perfect Guard, takes the form of one big slash, followed by three fast swings.
The Nameless Puppet can also employ another combo attack consisting of a sweeping motion of the blade, followed by a twirl, a leap, and a downward slash. Back away from the initial sweep, and either Guard through the following attacks, or use the window in which the Nameless Puppet twirls forward to wind up your Parry to interrupt it entirely.
Fury Attacks are another thing to look forward to during this phase. The phase one Fury Attack always consists of a swing with a slightly long charge time, and can either be dealt out on its own, or combined with other slashing attacks. When the Nameless Puppet charges his Fury Attack, use this time to prepare to Guard.
Defeating The Nameless Puppet Phase 2
Beginning Strong
At the beginning of the fight, the Nameless Puppet will perform an animation where he splits his sword in two. Make use of this window to charge in and dish out an attack. We opted to utilize three of our Fable Slots to dish out our Two Dragon’s Sword Fable Attack. The Nameless Puppet stumbled back as a result, allowing us to dish out another attack on top of it.
Making It Through Combo Attacks
The Nameless Puppet will completely switch up his attack routine during the second phase and will employ a multitude of forward slashing combo attacks – each of which is hard to Perfect Guard or dodge. This is where the Aegis Legion Arm comes into play. Guarding through each attack with the Aegis Legion Arm is often the best approach. These combos often take the form of three fast-forward swings, and a fourth wound-up swing as shown above.
These combo attacks can also take the form of a swift wound-up attack, followed by three consecutive downward swings. Be sure to follow up with an attack of your own following each combo. Doing so will allow you to regain any lost health with the Guard Regain. The explosion of the Legion Arm can also interrupt attacks, thus allowing you to follow up with your own.
Attacks To Watch Out For
There are quite a few attacks that are pretty hard to deal with. The first takes the form of the Nameless Puppet backing up, slashing downwards, and launching into the air, before bringing his sword to the ground and releasing a spread of three AOE projectiles. Side-stepping this attack is the best approach, but even that can be tricky.
The next attack to look out for takes the form of the Nameless Puppet backing away, before extending his sword and swinging it. Bring up your Aegis shield when this happens, or be prepared to Guard it.
Another attack to look out for takes the form of the puppet twirling into the air, before homing in to deliver a series of slashing attacks. We suggest rolling as he homes in to attack.
The Nameless Puppet will also employ three total Fury Attacks. The first two can be Perfect Guarded. They take the form of the Nameless Puppet bringing his weapon upwards and performing a range AOE attack, and a charged, ranged slash attack.
The other Fury Attack will happen after you perform a Fatal Attack upon Staggering the Nameless Puppet. This attack takes the form of a shockwave emitted by the puppet. Make sure to back away during this attack’s charge-up time.
Now take everything you have learned and finally put an end to the Nameless Puppet.
Once you have beaten the Nameless Puppet and completed the game, be sure to head back to Hotel Krat before starting New Game +. This will allow you to trade the Nameless Puppet’s Ergo for a Special Weapon with either Alidoro or Hugo (depending on whether you have killed Alidoro at this point in the story).
