Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla may have been the last franchise entry of this scale for a while, with a more contained Assassin’s Creed Mirage on the horizon with several more spin-offs in the pipeline–including the highly requested feudal Japan setting that will debut in Codename Red.
But before we meet up with Basim again in Baghdad this October, it’s worthwhile recapping Valhalla’s conclusion that will likely tie into Mirage’s lore. Here’s everything you need to know about the endings of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Main Endings, Explained
Similar to 2018’s Odyssey, Valhalla has multiple endings to conclude the main campaign with Eivor and explain more of the Isu–a precursor, alien race. There are six endings on offer: The Main Ending (good or bad), The Asgard Ending, The Secret Isu Ending, The Modern Day Ending, The Anglia Ending, and The Order of the Ancients Ending.
The Good Ending
The Good Ending will see you complete the main story arc of the game picking up with Eivor and Sigurd as they return to Hordafylke in Norway to say goodbye to their father. Sigurd then leads Eivor to the temple of Goinnhellir and the pair enter a simulation of Valhalla. Bewitched by Valhalla’s setting, Eivor realizes it’s a simulation after a few days and goes to leave with Sigurd, but Basim prevents them from leaving. It’s revealed that Basim was looking for Odin’s reincarnation to avenge his son, and he enters into a fight with Eivor. With Basim defeated and imprisoned within the simulation, Eivor later becomes the new Jarl of the Raven Clan, but the ending is dependent on Sigurd’s opinion of you during a conversation.
If you perform one or two of the following actions, then Sigurd will stay in Ravensthorpe, but completing three or more will force him to leave:
- Steal Styrbjorn’s cargo
- Begin a relationship with Randvi
- Punch Basim
- Oppose Sigurd when he passes judgment on the settlement dwellers
- Fail to give Dag his axe
The Bad Ending
If Eivor chose at least three decisions that favored Sigurd, then he will return to Ravensthorpe with Eivor and the Jarl will easily be his. However, if Eivor goes against Sigurd in three or more of the options, then Sigurd will not return to Ravensthorpe and no one will take the throne until Randvi convinces Eivor to.
The Asgard Ending
The Asgard Ending sees Eivor fight against Fenrir, Loki’s son, who is eventually bested and tied with the unbreakable rope, Gleipnir. After Fenrir threatens the Isu members with death, Eivor is given a vision of Ragnarok by the Norns, but the protagonist comes up with a way to cheat death. Eivor, Sigurd, and Basim, known now as the gods Odin, Tyr, and Loki, drink from Mimir’s well in order to transition to Yggdrasil where they are later reborn.
The Secret Isu Ending
The Secret Isu Ending shares similarities with the Asgard Ending, but it’s an extended version where the secrets of Isu are revealed. However, in order to unlock this ending, you must first collect all 10 of the Animus Anomalies. Revealing that the Norse Gods were variants of the alien race, the Isu upload their DNA to Yggdrasil but Odin states that Loki is undeserving of the process. Ignoring Eivor’s will, Loki ends up killing one of the Isu and uploads his DNA anyway, later to be reborn as Basim.
Additional Endings
Alongside the endings for the main campaign, there are more epilogues that conclude proceedings in England and wrap up the territorial wars. Another conclusion reveals more about the Order of the Ancients tees up future plot points in the franchise, and a third reunites us with Layla in the present day.
The Modern Day Ending
The Modern Day Ending reunites us with Layla, Shaun, and Rebecca in the present day, where the former discovered Eivor’s memory in a New England pagan burial ground. Layla learns the location of the Yggdrasil Chamber and travels to Norway to investigate. Layla is able to talk to Basim through the simulation, and he reveals that she must touch the Fragment of Eden in order to save the world, which she does. Layla switches places with Basim after dropping the Staff of Eden, and it’s revealed that Basim’s wife Angrboda is actually Alethia, the Isu guiding Layla in Odyssey, and this was all part of her plan to reunite with Basim. Layla then meets The Reader in the simulation, where she is trapped, and they continue to find a way to save the world. Basim joins Shaun and Rebecca, and we’ll next pick up with Basim in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
The England Ending
The Anglia or England Ending sees Eivor travel to Hamtunscire to see Guthrum attempt to take the crown of Wessex against King Aelfred’s refusal. Aelfred threatens to take the city by force which prompts Eivor and Guthrum to burn down Werham and then attack Chippenham with the allies he’s accumulated across England. Eivor fights Aelfred’s right-hand man, Goodwin, who reveals Aelfred has fled and consequently dethroned. Guthrum takes the crown after Chippenham is won, despite the loss of Soma, Hjorr, and Hunwald.
The Order of the Ancients Ending
Finally, the Order of the Ancients Ending occurs after the England Ending has concluded, and you can unlock this epilogue if you defeat every target in the Order of the Ancients.
Hytham receives a message on Eivor’s behalf that invites him to Athelnay. Eivor journeys to meet with Aelfred, who confesses his sins under the name of The Poor Fellow Soldier of Christ. Aelfred is revealed to be the Grand Maegester of the Order of the Ancients succeeding his brother, and he gifts Eivor the last medallion to signify England has been freed. Eivor is also given the key to Aelfred’s study, and it’s there where you can find documents on the Order of the Ancients and Aelfred’s plan to create a new Order: the Order of the Knights Templar.
