Not all stealth missions will be smooth sailing, some of them will have forced combat situations. When sneaking into a fortress or royal palace in video games, you can usually expect a lot of resistance. This can consist of times when a sealed-off location will spring a large group of small enemies, a few really strong enemies, or even a variety of waves your way.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will see Basim hunting down and assassinating several different members of the Order of the Ancients throughout the story of the game. Al-Mardikhwar, also known as Wasif Al Turki, will be Basim’s target for the mission, “Den of the Beast.”
Who Is Al-Mardikhwar
Al-Mardikhwar is a ruthless warlord by the name of Wasif Al Turki. Wasif operates as a form of hidden political power with influences over the throne. He can be found in the Great Garrison and is responsible for countless deaths.
This mission starts with Basim meeting up with Ali, who is watching a situation between Governor Muhammad and the warlord, Wasif Al Turki, unfold from some rooftops. Afterward, Ali will tell Basim that he has someone he trusts on the inside that could help get Basim into the garrison. Ali will then branch off from Basim to meet up later inside the garrison in order to free the captured rebels. Once you regain control of Basim, look to the right side of the garrison wall and you will see some steps. Look even more to the right to see some crates you can climb up. To the left of the main entrance will be some people that you can eavesdrop on. Eavesdropping on them will inform you of where some cracks are on the wall that you can use to gain access.
Head up the crates on the right side of the entrance. Assassinate the guard at this post and make your way along the wall away from the entrance. You will come to a gap that you can jump across. Directly before this gap is a small space you can slide through. Follow the right wall to the first ladder you see and go up it. To your left will be another ladder to climb up. Here you will see a guard to your right — take him out. Make your way to the east side and look down to see a bale of hay that you can Leap of Faith into. Get out of the bale and head northeast to find the steward you seek. Talk to him and tell him you are ready to go.
You will now need to follow the contact at a distance — while staying hidden. You can do this by staying close to the right wall, it is okay to assassinate the guards you pass by, as the enemy guards will not be looking at them while you follow the contact. After you have assassinated your second guard, move north, and you will see a ladder you can use as a bridge. Drop from this bridge while your contact is waiting for you. Once they respond to your presence, head down the stairs and turn left.
Climb up the wall on the north side. Head up the stairs on the right side, where you will see a guard stationed — assassinate him. Head northeast to the ledge where you can Leap of Faith. Your contact will go up the steps, it is now safe to walk close behind them, and they will open a door for you. Head through it and the door on the other side for a cutscene.
Alternatively, you can clear the jump before the crack in the wall and make your way along the outer wall with it on your left side. This path has a lot of guards, so you will need to be very well aware of your surroundings and know when to move, making this route the more likely of the two to be seen. Once you get to the corner, you can scale the wall and opposite this wall will be the food storage area.
How To Assassinate Al-Mardikhwar
After the cutscene ends, you will need to dispatch a group of guards before another cutscene. You and Ali will now be in the Great Garrison together. Head to the east wall and then head north to find some crates you can climb up and then use to get over the wall. Atop this wall, you will see a ladder, and upon climbing this ladder will be a brazier. Turn to the right and run along the wall until you see the top of a wall that is branching the gap between the wall you are on and a wooden beam you can walk on. Walk on the wall connecting the two and then on the wooden beam.
In front of the wooden beam will be a red canopy you can jump from in order to reach the platform ahead of you. Jump over the shields and onto the stairs. Go up these stairs and turn left. There will be two guards stationed up here. Assassinate the guard on the left. Wait for the warden of the garrison to walk by and assassinate him for the keys he carries. Use the wooden beams to get back to the area where Ali joined you after the cutscene. Head to the northeast corner, where you will find a gate.
In this room will be another gate on the northwest side that you can open with the warden’s keys — the rebels will now be free. Speak with Ali and then go back to the brazier from earlier to light it. The elite guard will come out to confront the rebels, so be mindful of your surroundings. Be sure to use your Eagle Vision to know where enemies are patrolling. Head back along the wall you walked earlier to get back to the wooden beam and red canopy. Make the same jump and vault over the same shields, but this time, head down the stairs while following the right wall.
You will find a door along this wall with an enemy on the other side. Have some red powder ready or some other tool you can use to take them out when you open the door. In this same room will be a trap door to go through. Follow the corridor, and you will come to a wooden beam where you can see Wasif talking to some guards. Move along the beams and chandelier to the other side of the room and wait for the guards to leave. Walk over to the ledge and then onto the wooden beam above Wasif, then assassinate him from above. This will trigger Wasif’s death cutscene.
An alternate means of accessing the room with the trap door would be to scale along the walls opposite the door and climb up onto the balcony. This way, you can access the room while being behind the guard. This route takes a bit longer and is the trickier of the two — but will be required if you have no tools left to take out the guard as you enter.
