Meta Quest 3’s emphasis on mixed reality makes it even more crucial for players to set up boundaries in the correct way, as it can make or break their entire experience.
One of the new features that Quest 3 supports is suggested boundaries, which allows users to automatically create boundaries, thanks to the headset’s advanced cameras and sensors. While there are still a number of features missing, such as the ability to have different custom boundaries, it is a possibility that it will be eventually added as part of a future update. If you are wondering how you can create, switch, or disable boundaries, we have got you covered.
How To Create & Switch Boundaries
There are two ways to tinker with your boundary settings in the Quest 3, just like the previous Quest devices. If your goal is to simply redraw or switch boundaries, you can simply follow the given steps.
- Open Quick Settings
- Select Boundary
- Select the appropriate boundary mode and continue to edit your boundary
With the Quest 3, you will first get a suggested boundary which you can simply accept or create a new one. If you choose Continue then the suggested boundary applies while selecting “choose your own boundary” lets you manually draw a boundary, which can be quite handy.
How To Disable Boundaries
This is one of those aspects that is quite frequently asked by users as it can be quite annoying to see the boundary pop up while you are using the device. What makes things even trickier is that players won’t find the option to turn off boundaries in the boundary settings menu. Thankfully, there is a way to turn off boundaries. But before that, you need to enable developer mode:
- Go to developer.oculus.com
- Login to your Quest Account
- Click on My Apps
- Verify your Oculus Developer Account by setting up two-factor authentication or adding a credit card.
- Click on Select Organization in the left sidebar
- Create a new name and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Start your Quest 3 and open the Quest mobile app.
- Make sure you are using the same account and are connected to your device.
- Go to Menu, then devices, and select headset settings.
- Click on Developer Mode and enable it.
Once that’s done, you can disable boundaries.
- Go to Settings and then choose System.
- Under the Developer tab, uncheck boundary
It should be noted that disabling boundaries disables passthrough recordings, so that is something you should keep in mind. A good alternative to completely disabling boundaries is setting a manual boundary but much further away.
