While there are a lot of things that are the same in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as its 2018 predecessor, there are also some changes that Insomniac has brought into the fold to make this sequel stand out. These changes include things such as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app that was introduced in 2020’s Miles Morales to completely new mechanics that shake up how you level up your Spider-Mans, or Spider-Men, however, you choose to say it.
One of these new mechanics is the various Suit Techs that you can unlock for both characters and their various upgrades that you can further unlock to improve them even more. Serving as a replacement to the Suit Mods from the first game, these upgrades provide distinct skill trees that you can progress beyond just the Abilities. Understanding how these work – as well as how you can upgrade them – are going to be paramount to bring the game’s two heroes to their most powerful form.
How Suit Tech Works
The first thing to know about Suit Tech is that all of these skills are shared between Peter and Miles. Whereas the Abilities Skill Trees were split between the two characters, with one shared tree, all the Suit Tech you unlock will be shared. This makes choosing which ones to choose at any given moment a lot less stressful as you don’t need to decide which character to choose between.
Further, the Suit Tech is split up into four distinct trees that deal with different areas:
- Health Skill Tree – consists of upgrades that will either increase the maximum health pool for Miles and Peter or increase their damage resistances.
- Damage Skill Tree – this tree will increase the damage that both characters can deal out to enemies, along with unlocking some new moves.
- Focus Skill Tree – makes your Focus bar(s) a lot more effective by increasing the rate you generate Focus, boosting how much health you can get when healing, and more.
- Traversal Skill Tree – helps your characters get around the game’s open world a lot easier with better speed and improved handling when web-swinging, to name a couple.
How To Upgrade Suit Tech
Every piece of Tech and its upgrades will require you to have a certain amount of City Tokens, Hero Tokens, and Tech Parts, which can seem like a lot of things to have to search for in the game. Fortunately, however, these are not that difficult to come across as you really just need to play the game and complete activities around New York. Each currency can be found by completing specific kinds of activities as well.
For Tech Parts, look to complete the following:
- Crimes
- EMP Experiments
- FNSM Requests
- Hunter Binds
- Spider-Bots
For Rare Tech Parts, look to complete the following:
- EMF Experiments
- Hunter Binds
- Prowler Stashes
- Unidentified Targets
For City Tokens, look to complete the following:
- Brooklyn Visions Requests
- Marko’s Memories
- Photo Ops
Once you have all the supplies you need, you then just need to navigate to the Suit Tech section (between Suits and Gadgets), find the upgrade you want, and choose to acquire that upgrade. It’s as easy as that.
