Lords of the Fallen is an action RPG with a heavy emphasis on combat. It’s a Soulslike coming into an oversaturated market, but it has enough charm to stand out despite the competition.
Like others in the same genre, Lords of the Fallen has a weight system that restricts the player’s movement to an extent, giving you one extra thing to worry about. The weight limit doesn’t depend on the number of things in your inventory like in an RPG like Skyrim, rather, it is affected by the items you wear on your person.
Which Stat Affects Weight?
There are two stats in the game that can increase the amount of weight you can carry at any given time. These stats are Vitality and Endurance; neither of them is purely for weight increase, though.
Vitality increases health alongside the weight limit, while Endurance gives you a stamina boost. The weight limit increase is just something extra on the side that increases as well. Certain items can also increase the overall weight limit of the player.
Different Encumbered States Explained
Like in Lies of P, the weight limit on the player is somewhat malleable. It’s not just one flat number that completely cripples the player once it’s crossed. It’s actually two flat numbers that progressively cripple you more as you cross them one by one.
You can check the state of your Encumbrance from the left side of your character menu. If it says light, it means you don’t have anything to worry about at all. If it says moderate, you should think about increasing your weight limit. If you’re heavy, it’s time to either change gear and reduce the load on you or level up and increase your load-bearing capacity. The last state, the one you reach after you go over your weight limit, will make the game unplayable, hanging you out in the open for enemies to feast.
- Light: If you’re using less than around 40% of your weight limit, you’re considered light and nimble. The running speed of the player is highest in this state. Your slashes are slightly faster, your jumps are slightly longer, and your dodges are more responsive.
- Moderate: There’s no real need to worry about anything if you’re in the moderate Encumbrance range. This means that you won’t be as fast as you could be in Light, but it’s better to think of Light as a buff rather than the baseline. Moderate is fast enough that you won’t notice a big difference, letting you dodge and slash freely without restricting any movement.
- Encumbered: Once you’re Encumbered, the game basically forces you to change your gear or level up. You won’t be able to move faster than walking, you dodge in slow motion, and everything consumes a lot of Stamina. Don’t stay Encumbered; change your gear before you die.
This video will demonstrate the differences in the different encumbrance states.
