Alan Wake 2: Where Is Nightingale’s Heart

Alan Wake 2 is as much a puzzle-solving game as it is a horror one. The developers give players a lot of freedom to explore the map with only vague instructions to trigger the next part of the main quest. Forcing players to really think before they’re able to progress the story.

Nightingale’s Heart is one such puzzle. While players are told in no uncertain terms that they need the Heart to discover the Overlap, it’s unclear where exactly the Heart in question is located.

Where To Find Nightingale’s Heart

Nightingale’s Heart is inside the refrigerator at the General Store. However, you won’t find it there until some prerequisites are met.

1. Organizing the Case Files in Saga’s Mind Place.
2. Finding all manuscript pages referring to Nightingale.
3. Profile Nightingale six times in Saga’s Mind Place.
4. Look inside the refrigerator in the General Store.

Case Files

Enter Saga’s Mind Place and interact with the Case Board. Open Nightingale’s case and select the available cards at the bottom. Put each card in its appropriate place on the board until there are none left. You’ll have to do this multiple times to advance the story as you discover new clues to put on the board.

Manuscript Pages

There are five Manuscript pages you need to get in order to find Nightingale’s Heart.

1. The first page is in the Morgue inside Nightingale’s chest, which you will get after performing the autopsy.
2. The second page is on the floor in the Morgue; you can get it as soon as Saga defeats Nightingale in the Morgue.
3. The third is inside the large tree just beside the Witch’s Sign. Saga will follow Nightingale’s footprints towards the flooded area and look for the extremely tall tree behind the sign.
4. The fourth page is in the Witch’s Hut. Open Cauldron’s Lake Map to find the exact location of the hut. You’ll need to unlock the door to the hut by getting the fuse from the nearby ledge. The fourth page is just inside the hut on the table.
5. The fifth page is in the General Store on top of some boxes. You can pick it up after you defeat the Taken that attacks you when you enter the General Store.

Profiling Nightingale

In the Mind Place, enter the Profiling section by interacting with the coffee table in the middle of the room. At this point in the game, you’ll only have The Bookers and Nightingale’s cards available for profiling.

Select Nightingale and click on the yellow notes to trigger Saga’s ability to profile suspects. You’ll need to profile Nightingale six times at multiple points in the story to trigger the next event. Always check the profiling section if you’re stuck.

General Store Fridge

After Saga profiles Nightingale for the sixth time, you’ll see a brief glimpse of a heart inside a white container. This is the fridge in the General Store directly opposite the Shotgun display case where Saga unlocks her new gun.

Approach the fridge and destroy the darkness using your torch. Interact again, and Saga will reach into the fridge and pull out Nightingale’s Heart. Now, you just need to find the Witch’s Sign.

If the fridge is empty, you haven’t profiled Nightingale yet.

Where Is The Witch’s Sign

With Nightingale’s Heart in your possession, it’s time to perform the ritual to uncover the Overlap. The Witch’s Sign is located in the flooded area where you found the third manuscript, just beside the large tree.

Revisit this location and interact with the hole in the Witch’s chest to perform the ritual and unlock the Overlap and face off against Nightingale.
