Ahriman Strategy
Ahriman can be daunting to face off against for the first time, but once you understand his attack patterns, he becomes very easy to defeat. He’s going to force you to use everything you have learned so far including dash, jumps, parry, and blocks. Although Ahriman teleports around the arena, you shouldn’t mistake it for his aggression as he’s going to give you plenty of rooms to land hits. This guide is also supplemented with a video guide that showcases how to counter each of Ahriman’s attacks.
Ahriman
uses four unique attacks, some of which can be blocked, and others have to be dodged or jumped over. All four attack patterns and their counter strategies are listed below:
- Horizontal Slash: Ahriman uses a delayed horizontal slash that has a massive range. It’s not of much use to dodge or block this attack as it will deplete Jack’s stamina and kill him. Instead, you’ll need to learn to parry this attack, and there’s ample window to execute a parry. If you perfectly parry this attack, you’ll deal massive damage to Ahriman.
- Vertical Slash: Ahriman’s vertical slash is difficult to parry compared to the horizontal slash. You’ll need to dodge around this attack, and given that the attack has a long animation, you’ll have plenty of time to attack Ahriman after dodging the attack.
- Jump Smash AOE Attack: Periodically, Ahriman will also perform a jump attack and stab his sword into the ground, resulting in an AOE attack radius. If Jack is caught in this radius, he’ll die instantly. You’ll need to time your jump as soon as Ahriman smashes the ground to dodge the attack.
- Airborne Shuriken Projectiles: During the fight, Ahriman will gain distance from you and get airborne, following which, he will throw three tracking shurikens. It is quite difficult to dodge these projectiles, and you’ll need to block them with Jack’s blocking ability.
After Ahriman loses a quarter of his health, he’ll enter phase two of the fight, which is similar to phase one but with a little bit of variety, including the following:
- Horizontal Slash: There isn’t any difference in Ahriman’s horizontal slash, and you’ll need to parry this attack when it comes at you.
- AOE Vertical Slash: In phase 2, Ahriman’s vertical slash has an AOE effect, and to successfully evade this, you’ll need to dodge and get behind Ahriman.
- Jump Smash AOE Attack: The jump smash AOE attack has the same animation as the one in phase 1, but this time the attack has a large radius that extends from Ahriman and covers the arena. The extending radius also has a tall energy wall that cannot be dodged. Fortunately, you have an ally in this fight who can be grappled onto, which allows you to evade this AOE attack.
- Airborne Shuriken Projectiles: Again, there isn’t much difference in the Airborne Shuriken attacks, except that Ahriman now throws four projectiles instead of three.
Additional Tips
While Ahriman might seem challenging at first, he has only four move sets that are easy to learn and counter. Additionally, in the second phase, you also get an ally who you can call upon for help. This ally can lock Ahriman in place, allowing you to land a couple of hits. It’s important to note, however, that once you’ve used your ally’s help, you’ll need to wait for the cooldown period before being able to leverage your ally in the fight. It’s also advisable to
stay aggressive
in this fight, which means keeping the distance between Ahriman and Jack as close as possible. If you’re playing the game on a controller, it’s also advisable to
increase your right analog stick’s sensitivity
and
enable camera assist
to help track Ahriman better. You can also
increase the FOV slider
in the graphics options to enable you to see better, but it also makes the game feel much faster compared to a low FOV.
