Best Werewolf By Night Decks

Werewolf-By-Night-Deck-Cards

Werewolf By Night has a pretty approachable ability that states “After you play an On Reveal card at another location, move there and gain +2 Power.” At the time of writing, WBN is a 3-Cost, 3-Power card, which allows it to fit well in many different decks. Listed below are three great decks players can try out based on their preferences or proficiency with the mentioned cards. WBN’s ability means that cluttering the lanes with cards can hinder its Power boost, so keeping lanes as clear as possible will go a long way.

After you play an On Reveal card at another location, move there and gain +2 Power.

Silver Surfer Deck

Werewolf-By-Night-Silver-Surfer-Deck

This deck is centered around Silver Surfer. With its ability to “On Reveal: Give your other 3-Cost cards +2 Power” it can boost most of the other cards in the deck. Since many of them, including Silver Surfer, also have On Reveal abilities, WBN will benefit greatly from their play. There are a few lines of play that will come in useful with this deck. Playing Storm, followed by Juggernaut, is always a great move, especially in an unoccupied lane as it will give players a much greater chance of winning there.

Storm followed by Brood is also a strong move, and while that won’t leave room for WBN to squeeze in to get a boost, it’s still a great option in a pinch when you can throw down Silver Surfer to boost the entire lane. Since WBN benefits from empty lanes, where it is free to move around, Venom can be used to clear some space while still getting a boost from Silver Surfer. Rogue and Killmonger here serve as strong counters that can be used when applicable.

Deck Contents:

  • Werewolf By Night
  • Silver Surfer
  • Brood
  • Juggernaut
  • Storm
  • Rogue
  • Venom
  • Spider-Man
  • Wolfsbane
  • Nakia
  • Maximus
  • Killmonger

Move Deck

Werewolf-By-Night-Move-Deck

This deck is a more traditional move deck that can utilize the movement side of WBN’s ability. The star of the show here is Human Torch and WBN, as they’ll both grow greatly in Power. There are plenty of On Reveal cards for WBN to take advantage of, with Miles Morales coming in handy on nearly every turn. The key to playing this deck, as with most move-oriented decks, is to not clutter the lanes, so cards are free to move where they can to get their Power boost.

Deck Contents:

  • Werewolf By Night
  • Doctor Strange
  • Ghost Spider
  • Human Torch
  • Iron Fist
  • Kraven
  • Spider-Man
  • Miles Morales Spider-Man
  • Multiple Man
  • Shang Chi
  • Vulture
  • Heimdall

Disrupt/On-Reveal Deck

Werewolf-By-Night-On-Reveal-Disrupt-Deck

This deck focuses on On Reveal abilities that disrupt your opponent. While these types of decks are incredibly frustrating for your foes, they can be very effective if they are able to throw off the opponents’ gameplay enough. Many of the cards listed are low-cost, like Iceman, Yondu, Scorpion, and Black Widow, making it easy to throw down multiple per turn.

This will give WBN a huge boost by the end of the game. Ka-Zar is probably the easiest card to cut if players prefer another inclusion, but he can be used to boost up your 1-cost cards played. Green Goblin is a star player here, as it has an On Reveal ability (which helps WBN) but will move to your opponent’s side of the board leaving more space for WBN to increase Power later in the game.

Deck Contents:

  • Werewolf By Night
  • Iceman
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Yondu
  • Scorpion
  • Black Widow
  • Ka-Zar
  • Green Goblin
  • Okoye
  • Medusa
  • Nakia
  • Shang Chi

Best Werewolf By Night Counters

Werewolf-By-Night-Card-Counters

Werewolf By Night has a few counters, but the ones that players will really want to watch out for are Shang Chi, Shadow King, and Valkyrie. Listed below are the abilities of those cards and how they will negatively affect WBN.

  • Shang ChiOn Reveal: Destroy all enemy cards at this location that have 9 or more Power
    • This card can obviously be a huge hindrance if WBN’s Power has grown above 9, which will be quite common in a good match. There isn’t a ton that players can do to avoid this aside from ending WBN’s movement in an already-filled lane or using a card like Armor that negates the effects of Shang Chi though this can be a bit of a forced move in most WBN hands.
  • Shadow KingOn Reveal: Set all cards here to their original base Power
    • Shadow King can be a pain when played at the end of a game as his ability to set cards to their original base Power can negate all the growth that WBN achieved throughout the game. There isn’t a great way to avoid this counter aside from using Cosmo, but that wouldn’t be the most useful inclusion in WBN decks.
  • Valkyrie On Reveal: Set ALL cards at this location to 3 Power
    • Valkyrie can set all cards at its played location to 3 Power. This can be helpful for cards that are lower than 3 Power, but harmful to cards that rely on growing in Power to be effective. Like Shadow King, Valkyrie can’t really be avoided.

Best Werewolf By Night Synergies

Werewolf-By-Night-Card-Synergies

Werewolf By Night has quite a few cards that it synergizes well with. Spider-Man, Miles Morales Spider-Man, and Green Goblin are highlighted here.

Spider-Man has an On Reveal ability and can move from its original lane, which means WBN benefits doubly in triggering Power growth and also having a cleared-up lane to move into. The same effect happens with Green Goblin, as the card will boost WBN’s Power, leave the lane clear for easier movement, and negatively impact your opponents’ gameplay. Miles Morales Spider-Man has only 1-Cost when a card moved on the previous turn which, if players are effectively utilizing WBN, should happen nearly every turn. The card is an easy 5-Power!
