One of the most interesting additions to Spider-Man 2 has been the Anti-Venom suit for Peter. While fans have been enjoying their time with the cool new abilities, many are wondering exactly what it is.
Players get the Anti-Venom suit in the latter half of the game, and it is actually more fun than playing as Peter in the symbiote suit. Not to forget, fans have been in awe of the aesthetics of the suit as well. Spider-Man fans have been begging for character progression for years now, and with Miles also having his really handy Venom abilities, it was about the time Peter got some flair too. What Is Anti-Venom?
Before you wonder whether this is directly from the comics, let’s get that clear. While Anti-Venom itself has been featured in the comics, this is the first time ever that we have heard of Peter Parker wearing the Anti-Venom suit. That being said, the origin of the Anti-Venom symbiote remains quite similar to the comics. So, Insomniac seems to have added a new twist to the existing lore from the comics.
Coming to Anti-Venom in the game, it originates when Martin Li, along with Miles, uses his power to get rid of the remaining Venom symbiote cells in Peter’s mind. This causes a reaction due to the interaction between Martin Li’s negative energy and the symbiote cells. The result? Peter retains the Venom symbiote’s abilities and his consciousness at the same time. If you have played the game up to this point, you might be well aware of the symbiote’s dominance over Peter’s free will, which makes him hostile toward his own people. After the interaction with Martin Li’s energy, that part is completely eradicated.
In short, the Anti-Venom suit is basically the best of both worlds and what Peter would have wanted in the first place. That’s not all. As you might have guessed from the name, Anti-Venom is really effective against the other symbiotes and becomes one of the most important weapons in the fight against Venom. Additionally, the symbiote’s vulnerability to certain frequencies is gone too, which makes it even more powerful.
Strangely enough, Peter still has the Anti-Venom suit toward the end of the game, which is something that wasn’t anticipated. One would think that such a powerful ability would be gone with the destruction of the symbiote. It seems like Insomniac has some more plans with it in the near future.
