Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Which Starting Character Should You Choose?

Advertisements

Super Mario Bros. Wonder has an array of characters available for players to choose from, and it can be a really confusing choice to make considering that all of them are fan-favorites. There are twelve characters that players can choose from at the start of the game, and the good news is that the character choices aren’t permanent.

This means you can change your character any number of times during your run and even replay levels with a different character at any point. To switch characters you can simply head to the Menu and select Characters. Choose your desired character and you should now be able to continue playing with the new character. Here is what you need to know about choosing characters.

Which Starting Character Should You Choose?

While many players were expecting that different characters would have different abilities, and players would be able to unlock hidden items if they chose different characters, good ol’ metroidvania style. However, the characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder play the same, and you aren’t going to witness any difference at all if you start your journey with any of the characters.

The only exceptions to this rule are Yoshi and Nabbit. If you choose to play with these characters, you will not take any damage at all, which makes them really powerful, to say the least. The only catch is that since they are immune to damage, powerups don’t apply to them as well, which does make a lot of sense considering that it would make them way too overpowered for the game.

When it comes to choosing the right character, since all of the others play the same, you can’t really go wrong with any of them. It really comes down to your personal choice, whether you are a Mario or Luigi fan or you want to go for Peach, Daisy, or Toad instead. The Elephant powerups of Peach and Toadette look absolutely adorable, so we recommend checking them out for sure.

Should you play as Yoshi or Nabbit? Well, not really. While being immune to damage and just running past enemies could be fun, the core essence of the game revolves around powerups. With that gone, it really takes the fun out of it. That being said, it does add some replayability value as players can take on the levels in a different way with their immortality.
