Super Mario Bros. Wonder has an array of multiplayer options for players which not only allows them to play with their friends but also check what other people across the world are up to. While general online multiplayer has received some flak due to not being as extensive, playing with friends is a completely different experience.

From creating rooms and organizing races to completing levels together, there is plenty of stuff you can do in the game. And if that wasn’t all, if your friend is a Yoshi, you can jump on their backs and ride them in the game as well! Here is all you need to know about using local co-op and online multiplayer in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

How To Play Local Co-op

In order to play Local Co-Op, you will need two controllers at least. Of course, if you have anything except the Nintendo Switch Lite, you can use the Joycons for playing. For more than two players, you will need extra controllers, since the Joycons will only support two players. You can play in local co-op with up to four players.

Simply start the game and after selecting your save file, you will get the prompt to choose the number of players. Select how many friends you are playing with then and then press L+R on each controller to activate them for a player. Once that’s done, you can simply head to the character selection screen and choose a character for each of the players.

How To Play Online Multiplayer

For online multiplayer, players will need to head to the Menu and press on the Wifi icon. If you are not connected to the internet, you will be prompted to set up your internet connection. Do note that this will require Nintendo Online to play, so if you aren’t subscribed to that, you are out of luck. Once you have that setup, you will be able to see other players on the in-game map.

While you cannot play with other players like local co-op and can only see their shadows, there are some other indirect activities you can take part in. For instance, if you die and become a ghost, you can simply touch a live player to come back to life. Additionally, you can keep standees for other players which can help them revive themselves as well. You can also create a party with your friends and play levels together or take part in races, which gives you some additional options as compared to the regular multiplayer mode.
