The new Drill power-up in Super Mario Bros. Wonder is one of those power-ups that actually makes the player wonder why the developers hadn’t thought about this earlier, considering how obvious it is, and how fun drilling past enemies and into the ground is.
Whenever there are new power-ups added, it is always one or two that take away all the attention, but this time around the developers have done an excellent job of making all the power-ups really well-balanced. In fact, these power-ups have made the older ones look pale in comparison. The Drill mode is a unique power-up because it is useful in both defensive and offensive scenarios. Here is all you need to know about the drill form.
Mastering The Drill Power-Up
Like some of the other newer power-ups, the Drill power-up can be really powerful if players use it in the right way. In order to activate the Drill Form, players will need to get the Drill Mushroom which is found scattered across various levels. We recommend stacking this up with the Bubble form power-up, as they complement each other pretty well. In situations where the Drill form might not be as effective, the Bubble form’s ranged attack might come to the rescue.
Let’s first talk about the defensive capabilities of the Drill mode. Anything that drops on your head, you are immune to its damage in Drill mode. The other aspect that actually is a game changer is the ability to make burrows in the ground. This basically allows you to simply skip past hordes of enemies with absolute ease. Considering that it totally takes away the hassle of fighting enemies, this could be one of the best abilities for players who are not looking to engage with enemies.
Remember the immunity to attacks on your head? That’s an offensive move as well! Spiked shells or hard enemies can be absolutely obliterated with your helmet. This is something that is very useful when there are falling enemies which can be a pain to deal with other power-ups. Last but not least, you can also drill into the ground and reach blocked areas. Additionally, the burrow mechanic can also be used to reach blocked areas, which makes it much less of a hassle for you to find the way in to grab those hidden items.
