The Main Characters Of Spider-Man 2
Leading the character roster in Spider-Man 2 are the two web-slingers, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, accompanied by the reporter and Peter’s love interest, Mary Jane Watson, and Peter’s best friend-turned-primary antagonist Harry Osborn. Kraven the Hunter and Martin Li’s Mister Negative also play important, prominent roles within the sequel, joined by a host of minor, side figures, including Wraith, Cletus Kasady, and villains Sandman and Lizard.
Peter Parker / Spider-Man
Since Spider-Man 2 takes place two years after the events of the first game, Peter Parker is now 25 in the sequel, maintaining the same height, and leaving the job of Daily Bugle freelance photographer in the rearview mirror. Within the events of this game, Peter bags a new job as a teacher at Brooklyn Visions Academy, leading a class attended by Miles, however, this is a short-lived gig as his commitment to being a superhero gets him fired fairly early on in the game. By the game’s conclusion, however, Peter is building the Emily-May Foundation, founded by Harry Osborn, from the ground up as its leader.
Powers & Abilities
In addition to maintaining the classic set of Spider-Man abilities, including super strength, agility, and reflexes with the powers to cling onto walls and web-slinging, Peter also builds on his intelligence in science and technical gadgets to aid his life of crime-fighting. However, the sequel sees Peter imbued with new powers from the Venom and Anti-Venom symbiote suits, that allow him to unleash a fury of tendrils against enemies, shift form, deliver a burst of overpowered combos, and flaunt an enhanced defensive layer thanks to the symbiote’s protective nature of its host.
Miles Morales / Spider-Man
After meeting Miles Morales in Insomniac’s predecessor when he was just 15, the Spider-Man protege embarked on his own adventure in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, making him 17 in the current game, and he’s grown a few inches in height since we last saw him too. Since he’s still a teenager, Miles is currently a student at Brooklyn Visions Academy but is hellbent on helping Peter out by fighting crime as Spider-Men around the city. With his mother, Rio Morales, to look out for, Miles is also kept busy keeping his Uncle Aaron, a.k.a. the Prowler, in check.
Powers & Abilities
Miles carries all the same Spider-Man abilities as Peter, although what he lacks on the field is experience and wisdom when making tough decisions. Miles is also gifted in the intelligence department and boasts spider physiology the same as his mentor. What gives Miles a massive advantage in battle is his bio-electric powers or Venom powers, which makes him a valuable asset when fighting enemy hordes. Miles also has the ability to camouflage himself which gives him a slight edge over Peter’s stealth.
Mary Jane Watson
Sharing the same age as her boyfriend, Peter, Mary Jane Watson is still as stubborn as ever in this game, and she’s still getting herself into risky situations following the Sable International infiltration. In fact, MJ’s drive to discover the truth has doubled in the sequel, and this mindset gets her into more harrowing situations including sneaking around Kraven’s base and stealing the meteorite shard from Venom’s lair. By the end of the game, MJ has given J. Jonah Jameson a piece of her mind and resigned as a Daily Bugle reporter, deciding to launch her own podcast called The New Normal.
Skills
MJ has no superhero abilities, but she brings a number of skills to the battlefield with great investigative skills to uncover key details, and she carries a keen intuition to get out of tricky situations. MJ has a few stealth missions during the main story that prove her ability to sneak around undercover in high-risk locations, and she also seems to be able to handle a stun gun rather well, taking down multiple Hunters and symbiotes in her path. Additionally, MJ bonds with the Scream symbiote for a boss fight that grants her increased strength, speed, and agility, alongside a lethal hair attack.
Harry Osborn
Harry Osborn is Peter Parker’s returning best friend in the sequel, who has made a miraculous recovery from a serious illness that nearly claimed his life, and the friends even share the same age and height. As it turns out, Harry’s father, Norman Osborn, allowed the Venom symbiote to bond with his son in order to “cure” the illness, and this gave Harry time to become the founder of the startup Emily-May Foundation geared towards “healing the world.” Unfortunately, the foundation’s premises are destroyed during the character’s reunion with the symbiote that sees him fully transform into the villain Venom. After Peter, Miles, and MJ destroy the meteorite shard connecting the symbiotes’ hive mind, Harry is killed and then revived by Miles’ Venom power, but it leaves Harry in a coma at the end of the game.
Skills & Abilities
As a human, Harry carries a number of skills as a young entrepreneur with intelligence in the science, business, and tech fields. While rocking the Venom symbiote, however, Harry is given a plethora of overpowered abilities, similar to Peter’s symbiote suits. However, since Harry transforms into Venom, his size doubles and his aggression and strength intensify. As Venom, Harry is also able to take on a number of forms, including the ability to grow wings and fly, but the greatest power Harry gained from the symbiote suit was the ability to mask his underlying illness and lead a normal life.
Sergei Kravinoff / Kraven The Hunter
Initially hailing from Russia, Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Spider-Man 2’s secondary antagonist Kraven The Hunter, stands at a respectable 6′ but he’s made to look a lot bigger thanks to his ripped physique and fur garments. Serving as a mercenary leader of hunters and turning into a prime predator himself in New York while tracking a host of villains to puppet, Kraven is said to be over 50 years old in Marvel Comics, but he’s able to keep his youthful look thanks to a powerful potion provided by the voodoo priestess Calypso. It’s currently unknown whether the Gamerverse variant of Kraven follows the same origin, but he’s a force to be reckoned with nonetheless by taking unidentified potions.
Skills & Abilities
Thanks to his concoctions and already peak physical condition, Kraven’s overall strength is enhanced greatly making him a fair adversary to Scorpion and Spider-Man. Armed with an arsenal of weapons, including knives, spears, crossbows, and more, Kraven also uses martial arts in hand-to-hand combat and his brute strength puts an uncanny force behind his attacks. Additionally, Kraven also sports leadership and tactician skills as a threatening strategist and flaunts keen perception by using nearby objects and the current terrain to his advantage.
Martin Li / Mister Negative
Martin Li, also known by his alias Mister Negative, is the returning primary antagonist from the first game who has yielded the spotlight to Venom and Kraven in the sequel. Nevertheless, Martin has an important role to play in Miles’ arc, as the teen has a vendetta against Martin for killing his father. For a 42-year-old, Martin boasts phenomenal speed thanks to his electric negative energy, and standing a little taller than the Spider-Men gives him a slight gain on the intimidation front. Known to be the former owner of the homeless shelter F.E.A.S.T., Martin has spent the last few years in prison for his crimes against the city, but after Kraven breaks him out, he becomes an ally to Miles and helps save Peter from his internal fight against the symbiote.
Powers & Abilities
In addition to generating his signature electric negative energy in order to strike, often at great range, with powerful blasts or charge weapons, Martin in his Mister Negative form has increased strength, speed, reflexes, and resilience to incoming attacks. The villain also has incredible swordsmanship on the battlefield and carries a mind-controlling ability that’s able to corrupt the psyche of his victims through realistic illusions that look like an inverted world or by enhancing their negative emotions. As Martin, the antagonist shows great leadership qualities and has proven to have noteworthy strategic skills being able to orchestrate the Inner Demons’ takeover in order to use Oscorp’s Devil’s Breath against the city.
