One of the many suit abilities introduced in Spider-Man: Miles Morales allowed players to swing through the city of New York using the framerate seen in Into The Spider-Verse. Suit abilities did not see a return in Spider-Man 2, but players will be happy to know that this visual style did return.
Unlocking the visual effect will feel similar. This time around, there’s a secondary effect that’s unlocked as a bonus. All you’ll need to do is pay attention to the level of your Spider-Men.
Updated by Wyatt Grondin on Novemer 2nd, 2023: A full of the current suits that will unlock the visual style has been added for clarity.
Unlocking Film Style Animation
Just like in Miles Morales, all you have to do to unlock Film Style Animation is craft a suit based on the Spider-Verse movies. These suits aren’t unlocked through a challenge or side-mission. They become craftable once Spider-Man reaches a certain level. These suits are as followed:
- Into The Spider-Verse Suit (Miles)
- Across The Spider-Verse (Miles)
- Into The Spider-Verse SB Suit (Miles)
- Into The Spider-Verse Noir Suit (Peter)
Surprisingly, Peter can unlock this ability first, as Noir Spider-Man can be crafted at level 20.
Turning Film Style Animation On Or Off
If you plan on playing with this animation for the rest of the game, you’re in luck. Film Style Animation will be automatically turned on once you unlock it.
For those not particularly a fan of the animation style, or would rather use it sparingly, the on/off toggle is located in the Visual section of the Options menu. For those players, also note that everytime you switch into a Spider-Verse suit the animation will be automatically toggled on again, so you will have to manually turn it off if the animation framerate isn’t appealing to you
How To Unlock Comic SFX
As an extra bonus, you will also unlock Comic SFX when you craft a Spiderverse suit for the first time.
Comic SFX add animation effects to combat sounds. Not every attack results in an SFX bubble. These bubbles are mostly reserved for attacks that down an enemy.
Stars will appear over enemies you knocked back when defeated. Special sound effects will appear for enemies downed in a single special hit, and words like “zap” will appear over enemies you attack with Venom abilities.
As with Film Style Animation, this will be turned on by default once unlocked. It can then be toggled off in the Visual section of the menu. It will be right under the Film Style Animations toggle.
