This article contains spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3’s second act.Players are still finding new content in Baldur’s Gate 3, even after investing hundreds of hours and completing multiple playthroughs; a common occurrence in many of gaming’s great RPGs.
A recent discovery that many were unaware of comes courtesy of Dreadedreamer, who found out after 500+ hours that a powerful enemy can spawn in Act 2’s Temple of Shar if the player doesn’t close the Umbral Tremors quick enough.
This fight is encountered right before the party meets Balthazar in the Gauntlet of Shar. If you don’t act fast enough to destroy the Umbral Tremors then a level 7 150 health Justiciar Crusader can spawn. This behemoth of an enemy can easily defeat an unprepared party.
Dreadedreamer made this discovery after sneakily unlocking the door leading to Balthazar, instigating a fight between the necromancer’s undead horde and the Sharran defenders. Needless to say, Balthazar’s paltry army was no match for the chosen of darkness.
This devious plan is potentially an easy way for you to deal with Balthazar, providing you with a much easier path to freeing the Nightsong deeper in the temple. Of course, there’s already some well-known ‘cheese’ with the later boss fight where you can counterspell Balthazar before dialogue initiates.
Players are unlikely to meet this enemy because closing the tremors is a priority for most, preventing the Crusader from ever appearing. Balthazar was right to be wary of the Temple’s defences.
A commenter, Madam_Sheriru, pointed out that players have probably never seen the enemies that spawn if you attack the diabolist Helsik. Should she be threatened, Helsik will summon six Gilded Imps and two Gilded Minotaurs. I guess you shouldn’t mess around with someone unafraid to cross Raphael…
