Star Ocean The Second Story R has a major focus on building a party and growing closer to the members recruited. The relationship levels with each party member will influence which ending players get, with there being dozens of endings available.
After a character is recruited to your party, players will need to get closer to that character through Private Actions. Players are able to check the relationship status of each character to the protagonist, along with any other character’s relationship status with other party members.
How To Check Friendship Rating
Each individual character will have a friendship rating with each party member players let join them. The Friendship level is a display of how much that character likes the other and can change drastically throughout the game. It’s also important to know that two characters will have different scores for each other, like Claude having a higher friendship score for Rena than Rena has for Claude.
To check anyone’s Friendship Rating, open the main menu and go to “Status,” the fourth option from the bottom. In the status menu, press the corresponding button along the bottom of the menu to “Switch Pages.” This will show the Friendship Ratings of the currently selected character for all other characters in your party. Pressing the “Switch” button between party members can quickly display any party member’s Friendship Ratings for the rest of the party.
How To Raise Friendship Rating
The Friendship rating between characters can be altered in slight ways that start right when the character joins the party, with the simplest being fighting together. While it will take dozens of fights for even the slightest change, having characters fighting together will slowly bring them closer together.
The other more effective way of increasing Friendship Ratings with various characters is by participating in Private Actions or PAs. Private Actions are side bits of content that can be experienced in towns throughout the game. Whenever entering a new town, be sure to use the Private Actions screen and make sure every Private Action is completed, as they are missable, and progressing in the story will close off Private Actions.
