The Finals is the latest free-to-play buzz in town, and with the game already shattering several records in its open beta phase itself, fans are curious to know if they can play with their friends on different platforms.
The Finals are what you get when you combine some of the best aspects from various games and string them together. Team-based gameplay, extremely fast-paced combat, quirky commentary, and a unique game mode which is a combination of multiple popular game modes we have seen over the years in first-person shooters, The Finals has all the ingredients to be a game best played with friends. With the open beta underway, here is all you need to know about the crossplay functionality in the game.
Does The Final Support Cross-Platform Play?
Well if your friends are on different platforms, the good news is that The Finals does support crossplay! As with some other cross-platform games, the process involves linking your account to the game’s central account system, to be able to play with your friends. In The Finals, you will need to link your PlayStation, Steam, or Xbox account to your Embark ID to be able to play with your friends. But before you do that, you need to ensure that crossplay is enabled in the game for you in the first place.
Crossplay is disabled by default, and you can simply head to the in-game settings and then find the option to enable it under the Network tab. Should you really turn it on? Well, it depends. It’s always a controversial option, and there has been a never-ending debate in a variety of games such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, and more about whether players should turn on crossplay or not.
In particular, the dilemma is usually faced by console players, as they are at a slight disadvantage as compared to PC players when it comes to first-person shooters. Keeping aside the performance gains, the ability to aim with a mouse simply outweighs a controller even though console players get some aim assist, against most players. If you want to be on a fair playing field and aren’t playing with your friends on other platforms, we recommend keeping it off. We didn’t face any issues finding matches anyway, so that option shouldn’t hurt your matchmaking times at all.
