A website most notably known for listing system requirements for PC games has posted an “Expected release” date for the remake of Silent Hill 2, which is leaving some fans of the series excited for its upcoming launch and others skeptical of its sources.
The website listing the information is PCGame Benchmark. Below its sections on minimum and recommended PC requirements and expect file size (50GB), the website states “An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but industry estimates following several Silent Hill 2 leaks suggest that the Silent Hill 2 release date will land within Q1 2024.” Further down on the page, however, an info box entry gets much more specific, stating, “Expected release on the 21st of March 2024.”
As pointed out by multiple threads on Reddit, the first report of this unveiled information seems to come from the X (formerly Twitter) account @ RetroToHero, who shared this post:
Still, there’s no indication of where PCGameBenchmark got that specific date from, and a lot of Reddit users seem divided on its authenticity, since it doesn’t seem to be an exact date that’s been announced by any other source. In a post that seems to be critical of developer Bloober Team, Reddit user @Weird_Cantaloupe2757 commented “Why would I be hopeful that the person that pooped on my living room floor the last 15 times I allowed them in my house wouldn’t poop on my floor the 16th time when they had given literally no indication that they are done pooping on floors?” Still, others have pointed out that major releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War: Ragnarok didn’t start receiving massive PR and advertising pushes until a couple of months before their actual release dates, so if the rumor is true, we might start seeing more information around January.
Previous rumors that the remake was ready to release back in March of this year were shot down by Bloober Team, although unlike this new rumor, the source of that one was known and came straight from the source, ending up being a misconstrued statement from Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno in an interview with Polish publication Bankier that the game was “technically ready.”
The original Silent Hill 2 was released by Team Silent and Konami in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Following up on the original game, the sequel continued to center around the fictional ghost town, but with a new protagonist, James Sunderland, who came to Silent Hill in search of his late wife.
We have reached out to PCGame Benchmark regarding its expected release date for Silent Hill 2 Remake and will update this story in the case of a response.
