Star Ocean The Second Story R will have players engaging in hundreds of battles against all sorts of enemies. This game has a major focus on the story being told and the characters involved, with some players wanting combat to take a back seat.
When beginning a new playthrough, players are able to pick which character is the main character, along with the difficulty they will be playing as. With multiple difficulty options available, it’s important for players to know which is best for them.
How Many Difficulty Settings Are There
There are a total of three difficulty settings in the game to choose from, with these only affecting combat in the game and no other mechanics in the game. The three difficulties are:
Difficulty |
Explanation |
---|---|
Earth |
The easiest difficulty and is perfect for those focusing on the story of the game. Random encounters will almost never pose a challenge, with many enemies being eliminated in a few hits while the party receives very minimal damage. |
Galaxy |
A more well-rounded experience with random encounters offering a bit more of a challenge and boss fights posing a decent challenge. Some grinding is recommended, and building characters properly with SP and BP upgrades is important to keep them viable in combat. |
Universe |
The hardest option, with even the slightest mistakes in combat leading to characters going down. Many strong enemies and bosses are able to one-shot party members, as players will need to master every mechanic of the game to beat even a random encounter. |
Can You Change The Difficulty
While the difficulty of the game is set when a new game is created, players are able to change the difficulty at any time outside of combat. In the main menu, head to the System option at the very bottom and go to settings. From here, scroll down to “Battle Settings,” and the difficulty of the game is the first option and can be changed to any of the three options at any point.
