What’s more fun than getting swarmed by an unending tide of nightmares, bugs, robots, and blobs in Endless Dungeon? Getting swarmed by those horrid monstrosities with friends in Co-Op! Plus, there’s no need to fear what metaprogression carries over between the host and their clients, because in this roguelike, almost everything is shared between you and your teammates.
If you’ve been trying to figure out how to play with your friends in online multiplayer, then you’ve come to the right guide. We’ll show you how to get Co-Op working and what you can expect when playing with your friends.
Before you’re allowed to start Co-Op, you have to finish the tutorial first!
How To Host Co-Op Games
From the main menu, click on Co-Op then select Host. When you select Host, you’ll be taken to a new window where you can set your region, session type (Protected or Public), and number of players (2 or 3 total players). You won’t be able to start a run until your lobby is full, so be sure to pick the lobby number that matches how many people you will be playing with. The region selected will determine what server you use, and if you plan to host a public game, it will determine how your game appears in the Quick Join search.
After that, just select “Open Session” and the room will open. Now all you have to do is invite your friends to the game and get a run started.
How to Invite Friends in Endless Dungeon
To invite friends, open up the pause menu, and pull up your friends list (the button to do so will be displayed in the bottom right-hand corner). On consoles, you can use the native friends list to find and invite your friends to your session. After that, just select your friend in order to send them an invitation.
For PC players, you can either invite friends through Steam’s, Epic Games’, or Games2Gether’s friend lists. Games2Gether will also display your friends on the other PC launchers as well. Sadly there is no crossplay yet, so you can only invite other PC players.
How To Join Co-Op
Besides receiving an invite, players can also use the Quick Join feature to join games. First, select Co-Op from the Main Menu then select Quick Join. This will bring you to a new screen where you can choose what region you want to search and the max number of players allowed in the lobby. If you choose a specific number of players, a new option will appear that asks “simplify criteria if no game found,” which just means it’ll look for any game if there are no games matching your criteria.
To the right of those options will be a little window that tells you both your ping relative to those servers, and how many open sessions there are. This is a fast way to see if there’s anyone online with an open lobby. Once you select “Join” you’ll be brought to a list so you can choose which game you want to jump into. Select the open session and say hello to your new partners-in-crime.
Playing Co-Op
Each player will get the chance to choose their character before a run to the core. Once you’re in a run, all resources will be shared by the group, so plan your strategy carefully. Upgrades can also be bought by any player for another player, and researching new turrets unlocks them for everyone to use.
Compared to a solo run, food becomes even more useful in multiplayer. You’ll need it for medpacks, store purchases, and hero upgrades, so save up where you can.
If you or your friends have to leave at anytime, you can save the run and resume it when everyone is online again. Adding players back in is the same process as hosting the game, and it doesn’t have to be the same person you started the run with.
Unlocking Characters In Co-Op
Thanks to version 1.1.10109, most of the meta progression will now be shared between the host and their guests. This means you can unlock almost everything in the game with your friends in just a few runs. This includes characters, districts, cocktails, and keys. The only thing that isn’t shared between players is weapon unlocks, but those can still be bought and used while in the same game as the host.
For characters specifically, if the host has a character unlocked already, then anyone can play as them. Once that player has completed the first floor or finished the first step of that character’s quest, then that character will be unlocked for them permanently. Alternatively, if the host hasn’t unlocked a character, all they have to do is satisfy the character’s unlock conditions to unlock it for everyone in the session.
Finishing Hero Quests In Co-Op
Hero Quests can always be completed in a multiplayer session, so keep an eye out for what tasks you still need to accomplish to upgrade your hero. You can check this by opening up the pause menu (Start for console, Esc for PC) and looking at the top of the screen. The Hero Quest you need to finish will have a yellow exclamation badge next to it.
Now that you know how to play Co-Op with your friends, we wish you the best of luck in getting to the Core!
