Puffskeins are little balls of fur that are impossible not to love. These magical beasts like to gather in groups and live in dens found around Hogwarts. You’re likely to stumble across these little fellows shortly after beginning your adventures in Hogwarts Legacy, but you won’t be able to adopt some for your Vivariums until after attending Beasts Class and completing the quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom.
Puffskeins shed fur that can be used to weave traits into gear at an Enchanted Loom. The material is needed to weave any tier-one trait and is particularly useful in the early game. Once you start unlocking tier two and tier three traits, you won’t find much use for Puffskein Fur, but it’s still worth capturing the creatures and selling them at the Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade.

Where To Find Puffskeins In The Wild
Even though at times it might seem like you can’t walk 10 feet without tripping over a Puffskein, the creatures actually only have seven dens scattered throughout the entire game. Conveniently, two of them are located quite close to Hogwarts.
South Hogwarts Puffskein Den
The closest den to Hogwarts can be found just north of the wizarding school. Leave Hogwarts through the north exit and start walking toward Hogsmeade. You’ll spot the den along the road once you’re about halfway to the village.
Forbidden Forest Puffskein Den
This second den can be found in the Forbidden Forest close to Jackdaw’s Tomb. Fast travel to the Floo Flame and walk a short distance southeast to reach the den.
Hogwarts Valley Puffskein Den
You can find another den in the northeastern part of Hogwarts Valley right next to the Dale Family Tomb. The quickest way to get there is to fast travel to Brocburrow and then make your way east until you reach the tomb and the den.
Feldcroft Puffskein Den
This next one is located in the western part of Feldcroft, not far from Rookwood Castle. If you already completed the quest at Rookwood Castle, simply fast-travel there and make your way northeast. Alternatively, you can travel north from the nearby village of Feldcroft.
Poidsear Coast Puffskein Den
The Poidsear Coast den can be found just north of the Maruween Bridge Floo Flame. You can also get there by starting at the Phoenix Mountain Cave and traveling south. You’ll find the den right next to a Merlin Trial.
Manor Cape Puffskein Den
Even further south, you can find another Puffksein Den in the region of Manor Cape, just north of the West Manor Cape Floo Flame. If you haven’t unlocked that Floo Flame yet, you can get there by traveling southwest from Bainburgh instead.
Clagmar Coast Puffskein Den
The last Puffskein den can be found on a plateau in Clagmar Coast, just north of the South Clagmar Coast Floo Flame. Alternatively, you can get there by traveling southwest from Clagmar Castle.
How To Catch A Puffskein
Puffskeins are by far the easiest magical beasts to capture in Hogwarts Legacy, which makes sense considering they’re some of the first creatures the game wants you to rescue. They’re not particularly fast and you only need to press the prompt twice in order to successfully capture one, so you don’t need to worry about using Force spells to immobilize them.
The only thing that can make Puffskeins a bit of a hassle to capture is their small size. It’s quite easy to lose track of a Puffskein while you’re chasing it through the forest or tall grass. While not strictly necessary, you can sneak up on the creatures by using Disillusionment if you’re afraid they might get away otherwise.
