In Hogwarts Legacy, there are a few chess puzzles you must solve to get a piece of treasure. The only way to accomplish this is to use chess rules to checkmate the opponent’s King and win the game.
In Marunweem Lake, you’ll find one of these puzzles located in a vault near a bandit camp. Like the previous chess puzzle in Poidsear Coast, we will show where exactly to place your chess piece to complete the challenge.

Where To Find The Chess Puzzle
To reach the second chess puzzle, you’ll want to make your way to the Marunweem Lake region towards the south of the map. Use the Marunweem Lake Floo Flame, and then head southeast until you arrive at the Small Bandit Camp.
The first thing you’ll want to do is take out the enemies outside the bandit camp. When you’ve done so, head inside their tent where you’ll notice a block inside a cage. Unlock this using Alohomora Level 3, and then you’ll need to take the block using Wingardium Leviosa. Head up the path on the left until you’re just outside the treasure vault, and place the block on top of the platform. FInally, hit the block with Glacius and the door will open up for you.
How To Solve The Marunweem Lake Puzzle
As you head into the vault, use Revelio to reveal the item in the room that you will use to complete the chess puzzle. Once you’ve found it, cast Transformation on it to change it into either a Rook, Knight, Bishop, or Pawn. Just like the Poidsear Coast chess puzzle, you’ll need to place the chess piece at the correct location on the board depending on what piece you got.
If you got the Rook piece, place it either directly to the left, right, or in front of the opponent’s King, using the image above. There is another piece already in the left-hand spot, so you won’t be able to choose this one.
If you got the Knight, you’ll want to place the piece two spaces to the left or right, and then one space up, creating an L shape.
If you got the Bishop, you’ll need to place the piece in a diagonal spot from the opponent’s King.
Finally, if you got the Pawn, you’ll want to place the piece one space diagonally from the opponent’s King.
Once you place your piece in the corresponding location, the opponent’s king will crumble and a treasure chest will appear at the back of the room. Open this up, and you’ll receive a random piece of gear to add to your collection.
