The Gunk employs a certain nexus of upgrades, all of which aid Rani and her exploits across the desolate, gunk-infested world. Without sourcing the materials to develop these upgrades, certain key areas will be inaccessible, and various foes will also be unbeatable.
All Upgrades in The Gunk
There are a total of 15 upgrades to seek out for Rani’s bionic arm, all of which can be acquired by scanning items for blueprints and then vacuuming plants and clusters for the necessary resources. Once enough EXP has been accumulated from scanning, a new blueprint will be unlocked. Compile enough resources, and you can craft your new upgrade using the workbench on the dropship.
Here are all the upgrades you can unlock and the cost in resources:
- Glove Grip Soldering (20 metal)
- Pulse Cannon (4 alien)
- Power Pulse (20 organic, 30 fiber, 20 alien)
- Overcharge (50 organic, 40 metal)
- Hydraulic Braces (10 organic, 3 fiber)
- Stun Pulse Array (10 metal, 30 fiber, 15 alien)
- Energy Lure (35 organic, 20 metal, 18 fiber, 10 alien)
- Emission Amplifier (20 organic, 30 metal, 30 fiber)
- Persistence Core (30 organic, 30 metal, 30 fiber)
- Energy Siphon (30 organic, 30 metal, 30 fiber)
- Kevlar Fiber (10 organic, 30 metal, 30 fiber)
- ATP Extractor (50 organic, 10 alien)
- Charge Deflector (30 metal, 15 fiber, 20 alien)
- Momentum Oscillator (30 organic, 40 metal, 26 fiber)
- Void Expander (25 metal, 40 fiber)
- Cortex Jolt (50 organic, 30 fiber, 20 alien)
While some upgrades are considered mandatory to progress deeper into the story, the majority of them are optional and are in no way necessary for completing the main game.
To harvest resources look for various plants with glowing wisps bouncing from their petals as well as clusters with shards of metal glued to them. Simply use the vacuum to absorb the resources and add them to your inventory.
You can, of course, keep track of your progress on the pause screen, which gives you a checklist of all the required resources for each unlocked blueprint. Once all resources have been obtained, you can return to the dropship by using a fast-travel portal and interacting with the workbench.
Scanning for blueprints
To obtain every available blueprint for Rani’s arm, you’ll first need to scan the wildlife and its inhabitants. If a red square appears over the subject, then you have already scanned and cataloged the data. If the square is blue, then you will have access to its data, which will then be archived.
You can scan creatures and plants in The Gunk, so be sure to scan everything before switching to the vacuum to squeeze out all of its resources.
