Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s State of Play gave players a lot of new information about the sequel, including a ton of new minigames. Keep reading as I provide a complete list of minigames in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Complete list of minigames in FF7 Rebirth
Queen’s Blood
A completely new minigame in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is Queen’s Blood. It’s a card game that focuses on 1v1 battles against random NPCs in almost all major cities and towns. The minigame looks like a fusion of Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8 and Gwent from The Witcher.
G-Bike
G-Bike is another returning OG minigame, as we’ve seen a glimpse of it in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. However, in this case, it seems like G-Bike is a level-based game where you take control of Cloud while riding his motorcycle, eliminating enemies along the way, similar to the infamous bike chase scene in Remake.
Chocobo Racing
Chocobo Racing is an OG minigame. Now, it’s a rendition of Mario Kart but with, as you guessed, Chocobos! The level from the State of Play shows that you’re able to take shortcuts since Cloud and his Chocobo jumped back onto the track.
There are also a couple of items on the left side of the screen, like Smart Birdie, Back of the Pack, and Fish in Water. My theory on these is they are passives that you can equip on your Chocobo before the start of the race, but we’ll never know until we get our hands on the game.
3D Brawler
3D Brawler is another returning minigame from the original Final Fantasy 7. Here, you take control of Cloud’s polygon version from the original game, and your goal is to outbox your opponent. The minigame takes inspiration from Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out from the NES.
Based on the footage provided by Square Enix, you can perform a left or right hook, as well as guard incoming attacks with your analog stick. You can also perform a Limit Break once your Limit Gauge fills up.
Whack-A-Box
Whack-A-Box returns to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which Square Enix claimed to be an improved version of the original one. According to the footage, it seems that boxes will have powerups of some sort since we can clearly see a box with a lightning logo in the middle, as well as five lightning slots below the timer.
The football minigame revolves around using Red XIII across the field as he battles it out against three other teams. The minigame’s main mechanic, like any other football game, is to shoot the ball toward the goal of the other team.
From the State of Play video presentation, it seems like there’s only one player per team, as Red XIII is constantly being used as a character. The gameplay doesn’t seem to incorporate any special powers or Limit Break shots, but that may change once the game is released.
Dolphin Minigame
The Dolphin Minigame is a fun and exciting activity for Cloud and the gang while taking a break from the heavy action during their adventures. From the gameplay, you can use the DualSense’s Motion Sensor or built-in Gyroscope to control the Dolphin, and you can even drift while traversing the course.
The goal of the Dolphin minigame is to reach the goal within the allotted time. You can collect beach balls along the way while jumping through ramps to further extend the time limit. This minigame takes me back to the Splashdown PS2 era, which is a trip down memory lane.
Fort Condor Minigame
Fort Condor makes another return, first seen in the original game and Final Fantasy 7 Intermission. The game revolves around an auto-chess and tower-defense hybrid where you summon units until all enemy towers become neutral.
The Fort Condor minigame has ties to the new Proto Relics questline, where you can collect Proto Relics from around the world. If you’re into completing all sidequests and collecting everything in the game, expect you’ll have to play the Fort Condor minigame a couple of times.
Frog Minigame
There’s only a short clip of the Frog Minigame shown in the State of Play showcase for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. From what I can gather, the minigame is similar to a Mario Party-style format where you play as a frog and have to survive a spinning blade that will knock you off the platform. As of now, we have no information if this is the only mode in this minigame as it seems to be part of the Odd Jobs questline.
Shoothouse Minigame
The Shoothouse minigame is the typical one you see in carnivals all over the world. You shoot a couple of targets in a fixed position for a limited time. The higher you score, the higher your rewards will be. Think of this minigame as Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Shooting Range.
Shinra Troop Rhythm Minigame
The Shinra Troop Rhythm Minigame is a new minigame coming to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It showcases a bunch of Shinra Troops performing synchronous actions as you command them to the beat. It’s similar to the Honeybee Inn Dance Scene from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and we even see Red XIII dancing along with the Shinra Troops.
Spaceship Minigame
The Spaceship minigame is a throwback to old games like Galaga, but in 3D. You command your own battleship as you battle and claw your way to victory against other ships in space. From the footage by Square Enix, you can perform evasive maneuvers like Barrel Rolls, heal your ship, and use devastating moves like the Proton Bomb to give yourself an edge over your enemies.
Piano Minigame
As I played through the demo of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, I encountered the Piano Minigame. However, it was only limited to one music sheet, which was Tifa’s Theme. In the full game, I expect we’ll get to play more music sheets along the way (maybe one for each character theme).
The Piano Minigame is a fun and rhythm-based game where you play a bunch of piano notes and time it to the beat. You’ll use your analog sticks in the minigame, so make sure your DualSense does not have stick drift!
