AMD published the source code for FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) version 2.0 temporal scaling technology this week, as detailed in a news release. Along with the source code, the company provided various additional materials, and also announced that the technology will be available to game developers for Xbox consoles through the GDKX toolkit. More details emerged the day before, their spotted Tom’s Hardware resource in messages on Twitter pages (blocked in RF) GPUOpen commands and the Xbox lead engineer Jason Ronald (Jason Ronald.)
First, it is noted that Xbox development teams have already gained access to the new technology and are actively testing it for integration into games right now. Secondly, as it turns out, FSR 2.0 is compatible not only with modern game consoles Xbox Series X|S, but also with the Xbox One last generation, which is quite unexpected and raises questions.
A list of optimal hardware to run FSR 2.0, published by earlier, started with video cards like the Radeon RX 590 and GeForce GTX 1070. It is likely that if FSR 2.0 will run on the Xbox One, it will only run on the X version with the most efficient graphics processor, although it based on a rather old GCN 2.0 architecture, while the RX 590 GPU uses the much more modern GCN 4.0. We can only hope that the Xbox One support is not a mistake, scaling is a big help for gaming consoles, especially for older versions.
