AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) scaling technology has been on the market for exactly a year, and in March the company introduced its second iteration, FSR 2.0, significantly different from the first: FSR 2.0 uses temporal rather than spatial scaling, considering data from the depth buffer, colors and motion vectors. The quality of the technology has increased, which was evident in the reviews in Deathloop, the first game with FSR 2.0 support.

AMD today. makes FSR 2.0 source code is available to everyone, it is distributed under the MIT license and published on the GPUOpen portal, along with all necessary documentation, new examples and comparisons. In addition, the company reminds of the upcoming availability of plugins for the popular Unreal Engine 4 and 5 game engines, which will greatly simplify integration for developers.

Officially, FSR 2.0 is possible with DirectX 12 and Vulkan graphics APIs, but it is worth noting that in a recent interview to PCGH, Head of Game Development Nicolas Thibieroz said that any developer interested in supporting FSR 2.0 paired with DirectX 11 can contact AMD for advice: “Things are a little more complicated with DX 11 support. But I can tell you that all game developers who are interested in supporting FSR 2.0 on DX 11 should contact us.”.

AMD also talked about the successful adoption of FSR technology by the developer community and the rapid expansion of the list of compatible games. At the moment this list counts more than 110 projects, among them both already released and those approaching release. FSR 2.0 support is announced for 22 games, new to this list are:

  • Abyss World.
  • Hitman 3
  • Rescue Party: Live!
  • Super People
  • The Callisto Protocol

Now the company is adding three more games to them:

  • The Bridge Curse.
  • Thymesia
  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

FSR 1.0 continues to coexist with FSR 2.0, with support for the former technology recently added to improved versions of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard as well as iRacing. In addition, FSR 1.0 will work in Call of the Wild: The Angler, Lies Of P, PC Building Simulator 2 and Project HP.
