Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of many side quests for players to complete. These side quests give great amounts of freedom in determining how the story of the involved NPCs will go. One of the earlier side quests players will find is rescuing Mayrina from the Auntie Ethel, who can also be traded with.
After making your way through the tricky Overgrown Tunnel, you come to the final confrontation with Auntie Ethel. In order to progress further with the side quest and eventually use the Bitter Divorce, you’ll need to make sure Mayrina survives the encounter.
Updated On October 10th, 2023 By Joshua Leeds: Baldur’s Gate 3 has all sorts of situations for players to handle in the way they see best. These situations offer great role play opportunities for players to choose what kind of person their character is. This article has been updated to include additional information to help players on how to handle this situation.
Where To Find Bitter Divorce
After defeating Auntie Ethel in the heart of the Overgrown Tunnel, there will be a door to the Hag’s inner lair in the back left corner. Within are many items, such as potions, a powerful magical staff, and a few other trinkets for players to find. On the main pedestal in the middle will be a wooden wand named Bitter Divorce. Pressing “Alt” on your keyboard will highlight all items on the ground and can be used to quickly identify this item to be picked up.
How To Use Bitter Divorce
After obtaining the item, leave the lair through the mushroom portal in the back to be teleported outside. Mayrina will be near the portal standing near a casket with her dead husband within. Bitter Divorce was what the Hag was going to use to bring Mayrina’s husband back to life, and with the wand, you have the choice to bring him back yourself. The next bit of dialogue will give the player multiple options on how to close out this story.
The wand can bring Connor back from the dead but in a zombified state. Should players break the wand before reviving him, Mayrina will become angry but eventually accept the fate of being a single mother that lies ahead of her. If players decide to revive Connor, they’ll be given an another choice to kill the zombie, keep the wand, or give it to Mayrina. Giving the wand to Mayrina will have her taking her zombified husband to Baldur’s Gate in an attempt to make him normal again. Even with this most powerful cleric spells, there’s nothing you can do to help Connor’s condition.
Keeping the wand will have him follow you as a summoned ally until his death. Being a zombie, he will die fairly easily and is not a full party member, nor is keeping him worth the heartbreak of tearing him away from his now hopeful wife. Keeping Connor as a follower will turn the wand into the Second Marriage. This wand will bond Connor to you as his master, and he will survive until killed in combat.
