The Callisto Protocol has been dubbed the “new Dead Space” since it was announced. However, despite the abundance of external similarities, there are enough differences between the two games – and they are most noticeable in the combat system.
Game Informer talked to the staff at Striking Distance Studios about the mechanics of the upcoming horror game. In general, they are familiar: a vulnerable hero, thick-skinned enemies, dismemberment, telekinesis. There are, however, enough new touches designed to complicate the life of both the character and the player.
For example, unlike Isaac Clarke (before Dead Space 3 anyway), Jacob, the protagonist of The Callisto Protocol, has melee weapons in the form of shivs and clubs. They can even be upgraded. Limbs of enemies can be not only torn off, but also broken. This affects the behavior of monsters.
To make survival more strenuous, there are two types of first-aid kits in horror. The first restores HP instantly, the second – slowly. Jacob’s animation and movement speed, by the way, depend on his health status (just like Isaac from Dead Space). The Callisto Protocol, we recall, will premiere on December 2. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
