Endless Dungeon: How To Unlock Shroom

Shroom is the only healer in Endless Dungeon, and unlocking her will make your adventures toward the Core far more relaxed journey. Healing is already a powerful tool in any roguelike, but in Endless Dungeon, it becomes a powerful way to save your food supplies for character upgrades.

Unlocking Shroom is a fairly straightforward process: you have to unlock the Devotion Gardens district, start a run from the Gardens, and then talk to Shroom when you return. Let’s take a deeper look into each step of this process.

Unlocking Devotion Gardens

To unlock Devotion Gardens, you’ll have to find a district key in Astral Harbor District. First, start a run by entering into the Astral Harbor District – the first stage that’s unlocked for you. Second, look for a purple treasure chest or a canister that’s glowing purple in this district. These items can drop lore bits, upgrade cubes, or District keys. Once you’ve acquired a District Key by opening up one of these chest/canisters, finish the run (or retire) and head back to the Hacker. He’ll use the District Key for you and unlock the Devotion Gardens District.

Starting Devotion Gardens And Talking To Shroom

After that, start a run in Devotion Gardens. You’ll find the new teleportation pad in the bottom left side of the Saloon. Once you complete the run or abandon it, you’ll be sent back to the Saloon. Shroom will be waiting for you at the southern planter box. Talk to her and you’ll unlock her for future runs.

How To Use Shroom And Her Best Partners

Bunker, Zed, and Blaze in Endless Dungeon

To use Shroom, start a run from any floor and select her from the character select screen. While you’re at the character select screen, you’ll also get to pick who her partners will be for your run. Her best partners tend to be Bunker and any of the damage-heavy characters.

Bunker

Bunker is a defensive tank whose best builds turn her into an immortal robot. However, until Bunker gets the Diagnostified! upgrade (and to a lesser degree, the Justice Doesn’t Flinch upgrade), she’s vulnerable to getting overwhelmed by enemies or just taking too much damage because she has to be so close to enemies to use her skills. Shroom fixes these problems by providing plenty of early healing for Bunker and taking the burden of purchasing medpacks off your food supplies so they can be focused into upgrades. Once Bunker’s healing is online, Shroom can spend her healing on herself or her third teammate without having to worry too much about Bunker.

The last step to this synergistic masterpiece is to find Bunker the Protect And Serve upgrade to taunt all enemies within 10m of her. With Shroom healing her, and Diagnostified! or Justice Doesn’t Flinch providing Bunker some much-needed sustainability, your Crystal should almost never take damage again.

If Shroom finds a Buddy Bolster upgrade then she can heal Bunker just to make Bunker even more tanky against everything but the heaviest hits in the game. This is particularly wonderful with Protect And Serve since Bunker will be taking all of the damage for her team.

Cartie

While many of the damage-heavy characters work well with Shroom, Cartie is a particularly wonderful partner because of Cartie’s passive and active skills. Cartie’s passive is Peer Reviewing, which increases the efficiency of active skills for heroes who are in the same room as Cartie, and it gives the Crystal a turret when Cartie is near it. When combined with Shroom’s healing, Shroom is able to heal more effectively and further save your team’s food supply because you won’t need to hunt after upgrades that increase Shroom’s healing. When combined with Cartie’s Mobile Library Hero Chip, Shroom will be healing for chunks of HP even without upgrades.

Cartie’s active skill, Publish and Perish, allows Cartie to stall out entire waves of enemies so her and Shroom can focus fire down any particularly bothersome enemies. Publish and Perish is also fantastic for giving Shroom more breathing room when she needs it since Shroom lacks a good escape or burst damage tool.

Best Shroom Build

Shroom in Endless Dungeon

When you’re playing Shroom, keep an eye out for these upgrades:

  • Soul Patch: +20% more souls
  • Learning The Trade: +50% healing efficiency
  • Buddy Bolster: +50% defense for 8s to your healing targets

For Hero Chips, run the following:

  • Soul Hash: +20 Souls
  • Missing Marbles: -10 Souls, +60% healing efficiency
  • Pistolero: +20% neutral weapon damage

The idea behind this build is to make your healing as efficient as possible so your team can save food for upgrades. Pistolero is necessary since Shroom’s base damage is on the lower side, and the only way you’ll survive through waves is if you clear all the enemies. Later on in the run, when your team is looking for more damage, keep an eye out later for critical chance upgrades to further increase Shroom’s damage if she’s still using the Sprayer.
