While most are enjoying For The King 2 and the game is maintaining a healthy average of about 15,000 concurrent players according to SteamCharts, there are some common complaints among negative reviewers.

For The King 2’s new user interface is attracting a lot of ire from those who claim that the original game had a more intuitive design. “Checking buffs and debuffs mid-combat is a nightmare. Checking inventory sucks. Doing anything on another player’s turn is broken,” says one reviewer.

Another common complaint is how difficult For The King 2 is. A reviewer with 14 hours said he and his friend “tried Journeyman (the middle difficulty) and got absolutely destroyed before getting to the first major objective.” Game balance is a common point of contention, with negative reviews saying the game has unexpected and frustrating difficulty spikes.

This is something that developer Ironoak has taken on board as they’ve already made balancing changes in Hotfix #1.0.15. These changes include a “softening” of apprentice difficulty, an “adjusted challenge to loot ratio” for town quests and “improved difficulty scaling for parties with less than 4 characters.”

People have also taken issue with For The King 2’s performance, with users claiming they’ve experienced crashing, stuttering and desync. To Ironoak’s credit, they’ve been actively responding to a lot of negative reviews promising future hotfixes.

With over 2,000 positive reviews, players also have a lot of good to say about For The King 2. The soundtrack, combat, new classes and enhanced combat are common points of praise. A lot of the positive reviews are also directly in response to negative reviews, saying that dying is a “skill issue” and everyone shouldn’t expect to “win” on their first run.

For The King 2 is currently available on PC.
