Every gamer needs to know the basic and very common slangs and terminologies that professional gamers, video game reviewers, streamers and many others in the gaming industry use.
Below is a few of such terms and slangs. Also add yours to below, if you know some more.

- BM- Bad Manners
- RNG – Random Number Generator
- ADS – Aiming Down-Sights
- BSA – Bullet Spread Accuracy
- AFK – Away From Keyboard
- XD – laughing face/emoticon
- OTG – Off The Ground
- Ping – ping refers to the network latency between a player’s gaming device (computer, smartphone, console, etc) and the game’s server
- GG – Good Game
- DLC – Downloadable content
- WP – Well Played
- MMR – Matchmaking Rating
- Packet loss – a small grouping of data that is sent from your gaming device to the game server. When ‘packet’ is lost, the server can not react or utilize the data that is sent from your device.
- Platform – this is the device on which you’re playing a game: PC (Windows, Mac or Linux); Smartphone (iOS, Android, etc); Console (Xbox, PlayStation, etc).
- FPS – Frame per second (higher frames per second equals more smooth gameplay). Can also mean First-Person Shooter.
- Hipfire – firing a weapon while not aiming down the sight or optics (not looking through the scope, red dot sight, iron sight, etc) of the weapon.
- HDR – High Dynamic Range
- DDOS – Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks capable of booting thousands of players offline , or causing lag spikes that puts them at a disadvantage over enemies.
- MLG – Major League Gaming is a professional eSports organization which runs a massive range of tournaments and events across the world.
- Salty – If someone dies a lot, is disrespected by other players, or has some other reason (usually a small reason) to feel aggrieved, then they are often described as SALTY. Players who are SALTY can quickly become toxic.
- RPG – Role-playing Game
- DPI (in Gaming Mouse): Dots Per Inch (or Dots Per Linear Inch) determines how far the cursor moves per inch of mouse movement. For example, 1600 DPI means that for every inch of mouse movement, the cursor moves 1600 pixels. By changing the DPI, you can instantly adjust pointer speed for precision tasks, such as in-game targeting.
- Doxing: Doxing or doxxing, is the act of revealing identifying information about someone online, such as their real name, home address, workplace, phone, financial, and other personal information.
