By now we all have a more or less clear idea of the difficulties 343 Industries encountered in the development of Halo Infinite. Not only was this the first time the studio had developed an open-world game, but it was also a new twist on the Master Chief franchise.

Now, as explained by Joseph Stalen, creative director at 343 Industries, it seems that. Halo Infinite’s open world was “significantly” trimmed prior to launch.in an effort by the developers to establish a more affordable scale for their first foray into the open-world genre.

“The team went through many iterations on the size and variety of biomes before I joined,” explains Joseph Staten, speaking to the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. “Even after I joined the team, we had to make decisions about where to reduce the scale of the open world.”

These statements make particular sense considering that, prior to the title’s release, 343 Industries shared screenshots and artwork showing different biomes. to the only biome (plains and hills with vegetation) that was finally present in the final version of the title.

All in all, 343 Industries and Halo’s first open-world outing has been a success with critics and gamers alike, it only remains to be seen if the company will be able to continue to introduce more content and expand the scope of Halo Infinite, available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows.
