Players who dug into the PC or mobile release already know the pure bliss of pulling off tight combos and exploiting enemy weaknesses, but the PlayStation version comes with a small hitch: If a PSN account is linked to the wrong Hoyoverse account, the player will not be able to access their cross save data.

The good news is that there are two workarounds to this particular issue. The bad news is that neither is a particularly intuitive process, and it may disrupt a previously established Genshin Impact link. Neither solution is a perfect one, but both will allow players to access their Star Rail cross data. The two methods are:

  1. Unlinking a PSN account from a Hoyoverse account on the PlayStation.
  2. Creating a new PlayStation account.

Unlinking a PSN ID from a Hoyoverse account can be done once per Hoyoverse account. With that said, if the account is also linked to a Genshin Impact account for the PlayStation, it may be best to create a second PSN ID. Remember, Honkai Star Rail does not require PlayStation Plus to play, so a second ID will prevent any lost data or access to Genshin Impact for players with two separate Hoyoverse Accounts.

If potentially messing with previous Genshin Impact data is acceptable, unlinking a Hoyoverse Account takes only a few steps. They are as follows:

  • Log into the Hoyoverse account where the PSN ID is currently linked. Use a phone or computer browser to do this, as it is not possible to unlink via the in-game screen on the PlayStation.
  • Navigate to the Account Security Settings, find the linked PSN account, and unlink it. Again, this will disrupt all games currently linked to this Hoyoverse account and PSN, so make certain this is something needed or wanted. An additional PSN ID is an alternative solution without unlinking a Genshin Impact account (though trophies will then appear on a separate PSN ID).
  • Once the account is unlinked, launch Star Rail on the PlayStation. Instead of going straight to the start game screen, a Hoyoverse login box will appear. Log in to the appropriate Hoyoverse account used to play Star Rail on PC or mobile, and the game will automatically pull over data from PC/mobile.
  • Log in as normal and continue the Star Rail adventure.

Currently, these are the only methods to pull cross save data to the PSN if PC and mobile data is linked to a different Hoyoverse account than was initially used with Genshin Impact on console. Mobile and PC offer an option to switch accounts on whichever device is in use, so hopefully there will be a future update for all Hoyoverse games on console to fix this glaring inconvenience and, in some cases, barrier.
