Lies Of P is the steampunk Soulslike of many gamers’ dreams, and finally, it’s here. Though most of you may be anxiously waiting to dive right in, taking a few moments to prepare can save you a world of pain you might experience when going in blind. Focusing on your Stats is practically the first meta-dive you’ll experience early on. But what Stat should you level up first?

Most players who have played other Soulslike games should be accustomed to the prevalence of Stats. Each given Stat controls a particular attribute of your character, and some are more important than others at the very start of the game. Here are the best Stats you should focus on leveling up first in Lies Of P.

Best Stats To Level Up First In Lies Of P

Early fights in Lies Of P

Though many of you may be tempted to focus on increasing your damage output by upgrading Motivity, Technique, and Advance, we advise against this. This is because each of the aforementioned Stats increases the damage output of Weapons that use a particular Scaling. Therefore, first, prioritize using Ergo on other Stats early on and return to Motivity, Technique, and Advance once you have your desired build.

Once you have your desired build, investing Ergo into Motivity, Technique, and Advance will depend on the scaling of the weapon you are using. However, when taking the level soft caps into consideration, try to reach the following levels for each Stat:

  • Motivity: 30-35
  • Technique: 30-35
  • Advance: 25-30

Vitality

Vitality in Lies Of P

Vitality is arguably the most important Stat in Lies Of P, as through upgrading it, your maximum level of Health will be increased. Improving your overall Health is a must for pretty much any Soulslike game, for it improves your ability to tank hits during your battles – thus improving your longevity.

Vitality also manages your Guard Regain and Damage Defense, so naturally you will recover even more Health following attacks after Guarding, along with being able to fall back on taking a couple of hits if you are unsuccessful in Perfect Guarding – should you choose to upgrade Vitality.

For players looking to invest Ergo into Vitality, we suggest aiming for at least level 30-35 before reaching the final act of the game. The amount of HP gained from leveling up Vitality begins to drop significantly around this point, making the amount of Ergo required to gain a slither of health not at all worth it – so you should invest your Ergo elsewhere.

Vigor

Vigor in Lies Of P

Vigor is arguably the second most important Stat you should focus on improving early on. Vigor improves your maximum level of Stamina, which is consumed through dodging, attacking, and running. Naturally, you will want to cut down on running out of Stamina quickly, for without it, you might find yourself unable to escape sticky situations. Vigor also improves Damage Defense, which comes in handy when Vitality is already increased.

For players looking to invest Ergo into Vigor, we suggest aiming for levels 15-25 before reaching the end of the game. The points you get towards your stamina begin to drop off significantly beyond level 25. Although you may want to keep investing in Vigor for Defense, Vitality, Capacity, and Technique all provide additional points in Defense at a much higher rate.

Capacity

Capacity in Lies Of P

Finally, we have Capacity, a Stat that might be overlooked by the majority of players. Capacity governs the maximum Weight you can carry before it begins to negatively impact your movement. Though you may not be carrying much when starting Lies Of P, your Weight will naturally begin to rise as you start to settle into a particular build. Builds with more Weight will require enhanced Capacity to lessen the blow they have on mobility, but lightweight builds can also benefit from increased Capacity.

Furthermore, though we have already stressed how important Stamina is, you won’t be able to enjoy its benefits if your Capacity is at an all-time low later in the game. Capacity also adds some points to Defense, just like Vitality and Vigor.

Unlike every other Stat, Capacity does not experience a fall off the higher you level it up. The level you want to reach for Capacity will depend entirely on the items you carry. If you find yourself carrying heavier items, then consider putting Ergo into Capacity if you are unable to free up some space. Ideally, you will want to stay under 60% when it comes to Weight and avoid heading into Heavy Weight (80%) entirely.
