For a majority of the player base of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, subtitles are the only way to understand Kiryu Kazuma and his misadventures in the streets of Sotenbori.
Fortunately, the game offers a plethora of accessibility options that help tailor the gameplay experience to each player and their preferences. Among them are quite a few options to customize Subtitles and how they look in-game. Here is the breakdown.
All Subtitle Settings
All subtitle settings can be accessed from the pause screen. Go to Settings > Game Settings and scroll down. There are a few options here.
Subtitles
Default: ON. Toggles Subtitles ON or OFF. Toggling OFF is only recommended if you understand Japanese or don’t care about the dialogue at all.
Subtitle Text Size
Default: Standard. Changing it will make the subtitles appear bigger or smaller in conversations.
Subtitle Text Color
Default: White. Change the color of all subtitles. Options available are White, Yellow, Red, Blue, and Green.
Speaker Names In Subtitles
Default: OFF. Shows who is the one talking at the start of each sentence.
Speaker Names Text Color
Default: White. Provides options to change the text color of the speaker name. Options available are White, Yellow, Red, Blue, and Green. The Speaker Name setting has to be turned on for this to work.
Display Text Skip Subtitles
Default: ON. Displays the option to skip one line of dialogue at a time by showing a prompt for it at the bottom right of the screen. You can still skip dialogue with this setting turned off; there just won’t be a prompt on-screen.
Subtitle Background
Default: OFF. Creates a blocky background behind every subtitle, which is especially useful if you’re using colored subtitles that tend to blend into the scenery.
How To Activate English Dub
The English dub of Like a Dragon Gaiden is not currently available for players. It is going to be a post-launch update. Currently, there is no option for players to activate it as it doesn’t come packaged with the base game. We’ll have to wait until the developers release the next update to get English voice-overs.
