Heavily inspired by the original Dark Souls, Lords of the Fallen promises players a world of wraparounds and shortcuts that lead back to the starting areas in ingenious ways. Everything is interconnected, even though it might not seem like it at first glance.
One of the main ways this is achieved is by locking certain doors that require Keys to unblock the shortcut. The Sunless Skein Key is one such key that unlocks a hidden area of the game that’s easy to miss and completely optional.
Where To Find Sunless Skein Key
The Sunless Skein Key can be obtained in the Calrath Cistern area just before the Skinstealer boss fight. Here is how to find it.
- Fast travel to the Vestige of Catrin (Hoist Vestige).
- Follow the mining cart track towards the heart of the cistern.
- At the end of the path, find the room with dozens of rusted, metal cages defended by a Mage, Raw Mangler, and a Hound.
- Defeat the enemies and use the ladder to reach the platform the mage was standing on.
- This platform has a lever that is used to unlock a shortcut back towards the Vestige.
- From the lever, look back, and you will see the golden glow of an item on top of a metal cage.
- Use your Umbral Lamp to unveil a small Umbral Bridge connecting the lever platform to the metal cage with the item on it.
- This is the Sunless Skein Key.
How To Use The Sunless Skein Key
Sunless Skein Key opens a door leading from the Sunless Skein to a previously inaccessible area in Lower Calrath.
- Fast travel to Vestige of Hooded Antuli (Mines Vestige).
- Facing the Vestige, turn left, and you’ll see a wooden door blocking the way.
- Walk up to the wooden door and interact with it to unlock it using the Sunless Skein Key.
This will unlock an area in Lower Calrath with a bunch of new items to find a shortcut that leads back to the Lower Calrath area and the main Vestige. There are two notable items in this area.
One is a cache of Small Deralium fragments, Regular Deralium Nuggets, and Large Deralium Shards. You can find this cache at the top of a wooden structure guarded by two Raw Manglers.
The second is the Skinstealer Spear, a very good Agility scaling spear you can find on a corpse near the smelter.
